1. Creating the Clash Report


1.1. Open SmartPlant and use the 170_Piping template from the General tab to create a new
session file.

1.2. Once your new session file is created select Run Report from the Tools pulldown menu

1.3. From the Catalog Reports tab expand Types of Reports folder and pick Clash folder then
select Clash Detection by Volume (Full Object Path & PG) - SLOW report. Click Run.

1.4. Select the volume for the clash report to process.

Ensure that the folder structure begins with a plant number as seen in the following screenshot.
Selecting a volume from any other folder structure may not include all clashes for the selected
module.
Note: If the volume corresponding to the area to be clashed does not exist, the volume must be
created, naming it appropriately. Ensure that the volume is saved to the proper folder location.

1.5. In a moment the clash report will pop up in excel.

1.6. The default Volume name will appear as IFC Reports Filter. Rename this to be the Module
Volume that was previously selected

1.7. Final step is to save the report. From the File pulldown select SaveAs. The folder is
.....\CADD\Piping\Clash Reports and the filename will be the same name as Volume name
(e.g. 170-PR-1101.xls).

2. Reviewing/Approving Clashes
2.1. Open SmartPlant and use the appropriate template from the PADS tab to create a new session
file.

2.2. Define workspace with the area/module you wish to check clashes on.
2.3. Select Check Interference from the Tools pulldown if it is not already selected.

2.4. When Check Interference is active the following toolbar will be active.

The following section deals with this toolbar and is for information purposes only.
2.4.1. The first button,
, is Settings. Deselecting anything on this page will filter the clash
list. Do not deselect more than None under Required Action, this will not display any
false clash.

2.4.2. The Second button,


, is Show Interferences If this button is highlighted it means
that some of the Interferences are currently Hidden.. They were hidden by either
deselecting an item in 2.5.1 or by clicking the third button Hide Interferences. Clicking
this button to show all interferences, can take a long time to unhide the interferences.
2.4.3. The Third button,
, is Hide Interferences Never Select this Button as turning on
all interferences takes an extremely long time.
2.4.4. The Fourth button,
, is Fit Interferences. If a clash is selected from the clash List
View window, clicking this button will Fit the currently selected interferences to your
active window.
2.4.5. The Fifth button,
, is List View, it will open a list of all interferences that are in your
current session. This list can be used during day to day modeling, it will be used to
review the clashes. Selecting this button will display the following Interference List
window

To view properties for a row, double-click the Row button.


Review the list and EDIT REQUIRED ACTION and NOTES column of each row as necessary.
The following provides a definition of each column property:
Name - Name of the interference Available only for Database Detect.
Part A - Name of the interfering part Read-only; you cannot edit.
Part B - Name of the interfering part Read-only; you cannot edit.
Type - Display of interference severity: Severe, Clearance, Optional. Read-only; you cannot edit.
Required Action - Provides a list with three choices:
Undefined New, Not yet reviewed clashes,
Edit Clash must be resolved via model modification
None False clash, no action required.
Last Modified Displays the date that the interference was found Read-only; you cannot edit.
Notes - Text entry field for other pertinent information. Add additional information as needed. (i.e. False
Clash)

2.5. Review all clashes where Required Action is UNDEFINED, if the clash selected is a valid
clash, set Required Action to EDIT-must resolve. . and fix clashing by revising the model.
Once model is fixed, clash will not be shown in the list again. If the clash is a false clash ( e.g.
Insulation of 2 pipe runs at a tee) change the Required Action to be NONE and add the
appropriate comment in the Notes column. To review all clashes with required action set to
NONE, select (check) the None box in step 1.4.1.
Review all clashes where Required Action is EDIT must resolve. ., if the clash selected is
a valid clash, investigate why model clash is not yet fixed. Coordinate with other disciplines to fix
clash. Once model is fixed, clash will not be shown in the list again. If the clash is a false clash
( e.g. Insulation of 2 pipe runs at a tee) change the Required Action to be NONE and add the
appropriate comment in the Notes column. To review all clashes with required action set to
NONE, select (check) the None box in step 1.4.1.
NOTE: Required Action can ONLY be set to NONE or EDIT.

2.6. Checker MUST review all clashes with Required Action set to NONE status prior to any
IFC issue.
