The Ashdell News

WELCOME BACK * WELCOME BACK * WELCOME BACK * WELCOME BACK *

Friends and Family Fun Open day

Thank you so much to everyone who came
along to our recent Friends and Family Fun Day.
The rain tried to spoil our day, but we showed
true Ashdell grit and carried on and the sun
eventually stayed out for the afternoon. The
highlight of the day was our Great Ashdell Bake
Off, and our special
guest, Great British Bake Off finalist Howard
Middleton. Howard came along to judge all
your wonderful entries, and you certainly
did the school proud, they were amazing,
THANK YOU! Our winners on the day were, Emily (Snowdrops) with
her lemon poppy seed ,raspberry curd and white chocolate ganache
flavoured cake ,decorated with books, pens and pencils, (all made out
of icing). Our under 16 winners, was sister act
team, Alex,(P4) Thea(P1) and Camille
(snowdrops) who produced the Ashdell Gingerbread School House . Howard praised all
the entrants but said it was the attention to
detail of the two
winners that made
him choose them.
He also quickly added that they tasted as
good as they looked too! WELL DONE ! We
have had a great deal of positive feedback
from visiting parents and current parents on
the day, so a BIG thank you to you all.

Good Bye Mrs Barber... Good bye Mrs Wragg

Sadly we will be saying farewell to two members of staff at the end of
the summer term. Mrs Barber who has been teaching at Ashdell for 6
years, has secured a teaching position closer to home. Mrs Wragg
who was first a parent and then a teacher, making her association
with Ashdell a staggering 19 years is hoping to move to a senior management position elsewhere. We will be very sorry to see them go as
they have both contributed so much to the school and have been
such a big part of it during their time here. Between them they have
inspired and nurtured budding actors, writers, artists and scientists.
We hope you will join us in wishing them both all the very best in
their new chapters. You will be missed, especially by the girls. We are
currently advertising for replacements and I will update you as soon
as appointments have been made.

Charity and Fundraising

Thank you yet again for
your very generous donations at the Friends and
Family Fun Day for cakes
and drinks, you have
helped us raise a further 100.00 to go
into the Help for Heroes pot,. Its another
step closer to our 1,000 target we are
hoping to reach by the end of the summer
term THANK YOU!!

P3s Synagogue Trip

P3 spent a very interesting morning
at the Synagogue, the girls were
great ambassadors for their school.
The most interesting part of the visit was looking at all the beautiful
designs on the scrolls. I loved to feel
them and hold them, they were very
heavy!- Molly (P3)

Swimming Gala
Many thanks to everyone involved in
the swimming gala, the girls who took
part were brilliant and there were some
amazing swims. A special mention must go to Esm
(P1) who refused to give in and showed great determination to finish her race.! Go Esm!
Many Congratulations to the winning house Rivelin.

P2s River Day( Hathersage)

P2 certainly experienced just how
quickly the weather can change when
out in the country,
the girls endured
wind, rain, snow
and sunshine! All
four seasons in one
day. The girls had a
great day out exploring the physical
geography of a River. They learned
about mini beasts and where they
lived. They measured the speed of the river flow and
identified patterns of erosion and deposition. My favourite bit was when we got into
the river and started to collect
mini-beasts in our buckets. We
could look at them close up and
see all the different types.-Freya

P4 Visit to the University Science Lab

Sheffield Young Artists
Many congratulations to Hannah (P2)
for winning runner up prize in the
Mixed Media category of Sheffield
Young Artist. Hannah went for tea with
the Lord Mayor at the Town Hall to
meet all the other finalists, and then the
winners were announced at the exhibition in Ponds Forge. Well done Hannah!

Ruby wins a Green Screen !

Ruby (P4) came first
in a nationwide online art competition
and has won a Green
Screen and all the
equipment to go
with it, worth 1000
for Ashdell. The
Imagination Station
packages enables pupils of all ages and abilities to engage with a subject in a truly original, creative and memorable way using green screen film and photography just
like in the movies! Congratulations Ruby, we cant wait
for it to arrive so we can start making movies!
PLEASE NO MORE PLASTIC BOTTLES FOR THE GREENHOUSE, WE
HAVE ENOUGH THANK YOU VERY MUCH

The girls spent two hours

working on a variety of colour chemistry experiments
in the Sheffield University
Schools' Laboratory, including flame tests on metals
and testing the PH levels of
various foods and liquid. They
thoroughly enjoyed the experience and have come away
with a very positive view of
chemistry!

Easter Holiday trip to the V&A

During the Easter break a
group of Prep girls paid a
visit to the V& A museum in
London for the Alexander
McQueen, Savage Beauty
exhibition. The girls all travelled down on the train to
the Capital city with Mrs Camm and Mrs Wragg, for
what was a very busy but very enjoyable day. Thank
you very much to Mrs Wragg for organising the trip.
