SIMATIC NET
Communications Processors for SIMATIC S7
Product Brief
SIMATIC controllers are a central

component of the overall automation

system offered by Siemens called
Totally Integrated Automation. A single,
completely integrated and consistent
system enables you to execute any
automation functions.
Automation components across the
whole production chain from incoming goods to the packaging machine
are based on a consistent system. It is
characterized by consistency in three
respects: uniform configuration and
programming, uniform data storage
and uniform communications.
SIMATIC NET offers uniform communications on open standard buses
which connect the coordination level to
the field. High-performance communications processors (CPs) for the
SIMATIC S7, in conjunction with
Industrial Ethernet (IEEE 802.3/802.3u),
enable an information technology combination of connected networks for
local or global corporate networks.
Or, in conjunction with the PROFIBUS
fieldbus (IEC 61158/EN 50170) for
communications with distributed I/Os,
they ensure extremely fast response
times. Or they enable the connection
of actuators and sensors to automation
systems at the field level using
AS-Interface (EN 50 295).

Technology

SIMATIC NET is the name given to a

whole range of different networks. The
individual products fulfil a wide range
of performance and application
requirements: they can exchange data
across various levels, between different sections of the plant or between
different automation stations.
ITlution takes on a particularly important role within the range:
ITlution stands for the industrial communications products from SIMATIC
NET which use conventional IT technology (Web, e-mail).

These are based on networks such as

Industrial Ethernet, ISDN and GSM.
The networks also have uniform system
interfaces and are excellently adapted
to suit one another.
The most important members of the
range at a glance:
Industrial Ethernet
(IEEE 802.3/802.3u)
the international standard for area and
cell networking.
PROFIBUS
(IEC 61158/EN 50170)
the international standard for the process and field level and cell networks
with only a few stations.

(EN 50 090, ANSI EIA 776)
the global standard building installation
system and the basis for buildings services automation.
The fact that networks with thousands
of network stations have been implemented in all the major sectors of
industry goes to show just how successful SIMATIC NET really is. One of
the reasons for this is the fact that
SIMATIC NET has been based on consistent standards from the very outset.

Siemens has been a member of the

standardization committees working on
international standards for industrial
communications from the very beginning.
PLC as a central element of
communications
Programmable controllers (PLC) have
always played a key role in the world of
automation. And industrial communications are of central importance.
The SIMATIC NET PLC communications processors (CPs) play a crucial
role in industrial communications.

They have the following advantages:

CPs for all SIMATIC formats, e.g.
SIMATIC S7-300/400.
Open communications on the basis
of standards means that SIMATIC
can communicate with any other
device.
SIMATIC NET increases availability
by means of modular networked
system sections, so, for example,
the electricity is supplied through a
number of individual power circuits.
Using the standard protocols of
TCP/IP, HTTP, SMTP and FMS,
SIMATIC S7 controllers can be integrated into higher-level software systems such as MES (Manufacturing
Execution System) and MIS (Management Information System).
This is made even easier using the
SIMATIC NET products for Windows
PCs which have an OPC system and
are integrated into the SIMATIC engineering system.
Process or field communications
Process or field communications are
used to connect actuators/sensors to a
controller.
The connection can be via integral
interfaces on the CPU or via interface
modules (CPs).
The transfer of process signals to the
actuators/sensors is both cyclic via the
process image and event-triggered by
the control command.
SIMATIC NET offers the PROFIBUS-DP
and the AS-Interface for process or
field communications.
Data communications
Data communications enables data
transfer between automation devices
or between an automation device and
an intelligent partner (PC, computer,
etc.).
The SIMATIC S7 offers PROFIBUS and
Industrial Ethernet for data communications.
Communications across networks
The connection can be via integral
interfaces on the CPU or via communications processors (CPs).
The transfer of the data is event-triggered and involves calling a communications block.

Allocation of bus systems

For the SIMATIC family, there are communications processors (CPs) which
act as masters to control process or
field communications or data communications.

Automation level

AS-Interface
The AS-Interface is a cost-effective
alternative to the cable harness which
can connect numerous sensors and
actuators through a two-wire connection.
The AS-Interface is used when individual actuators/sensors are distributed
across a wide area on the machine
(e.g. in a bottle filling plant). The
AS-Interface is a single master system.
PROFIBUS
PROFIBUS is the worlds leading fieldbus and has considerable benefits for
field or process communications:
PROFIBUS is a high-performance,
open and rugged bus system which
guarantees smooth communications.
The system is completely standardized
to IEC 61158/EN 50170, which means
there are no problems in connecting
any standard components produced
by different manufacturers.
Configuration, start-up and troubleshooting can be done from anywhere.
This means that the freely programmable communications relationships are
highly flexible, easy to implement in
practice and simple to change.
Industrial Ethernet
With a market share in excess of 80%,
Ethernet is currently the number one in
the world-wide LAN market.
Ethernet has important characteristics
which could be extremely beneficial for
your application:

This network has practically unlimited
communications performance, as
scaleable performance is available
where required using switching
technology.
Industrial Ethernet from SIMATIC
NET, which has been implemented
for years at 10 Mbit/s in accordance
with IEEE 802.3, is now available with
100 Mbit/s Fast Ethernet technology
in accordance with IEEE 802.3u.
Start-up and troubleshooting of the
system can be undertaken from anywhere.
High availability thanks to redundant
network topologies.

ITlution
ITlution stands for the SIMATIC NET
industrial communications products
which use conventional IT technologies.
The use of Web technologies and
e-mail functions enables global communications using SIMATIC and at the
same time trouble-free connections to
the design and administration levels.
The basis for communications is primarily Industrial Ethernet at the local level
and the ISDN and GSM networks for
WANs. The basis for consistent communications is the TCP/IP protocol
which guarantees local and global
communications in conjunction with the
networks and routers.

there are a number of different components working at the field level. All
these actuators/sensors have to be
connected to an automation system.
This is most often achieved using distributed I/Os at the field level, which
could, to a certain extent, be described
as intelligent outposts.
Process or field communications are
supported by the AS-Interface and
PROFIBUS-DP networks.
The AS-Interface is used when individual actuators/sensors are distributed
across a wide area on the machine
(e.g. in a bottle filling plant). The
AS-Interface is a single master system.
The AS-Interface is the open international standard EN 50 295. Leading
manufacturers of actuators and sensors
from around the world support the
AS-Interface.

For the SIMATIC family, there are communications processors (CPs) which
act as masters and control process or
field communications.
Links with IP 20 and IP 65 degree of
protection are also available for connecting the AS-Interface directly to
PROFIBUS-DP. These DP/AS-Interface
links mean that the AS-Interface can be
used as a subnet for PROFIBUS-DP.
The SIMATIC S7-400 and other
PROFIBUS-DP masters are connected
to the AS-Interface by means of the
DP/AS-Interface link.

The CP 343-2 and the CP 243-2 are

available for connecting the S7-300
and the S7-200 respectively to the
automation environments.
Both communications processors and
the DP/AS-Interface Link 20E fulfil the
expanded AS-Interface specification
V2.1, according to which up to 62
slaves can be connected and integral
transmission of analog values is possible.
The CP 142-2 is used for connecting
the ET 200X distributed I/O system.

Process or field communications

AS-Interface masters

The new system additions agreed upon

in the AS-Interface consortium mean
that additional savings can be made
using the AS-Interface. The system
additions outlined under the AS-Interface Specification 2.1 do not define a
new AS-Interface, they merely add
new potential to the established standard. The main additions include the
A/B technology where up to 62 slaves
can be connected, simplified analog
value processing and additional diagnostics functions.
The aim of the amendments to the
system was to keep the AS-Interface
simple for the user while making it still
more cost-effective. Therefore, all
established slaves are still compatible
and still form part of the key range of
AS-Interface products.
AS-Interface masters ensure the connection for the SIMATIC S7 to the
AS-Interface and control process or
field communications.
All the AS-Interface masters detailed
here have the following functions:
They support all AS-Interface master
functions in accordance with the
extended AS-Interface specification
V2.1, i.e. master class M1e.
Up to 62 AS-Interface slaves can be
connected and there is integral analog value transmission (in accordance with extended AS-Interface
specification V2.1)
Systems can now be configured simply at the touch of a button, which
considerably reduces start-up times.
Downtimes and service times are
reduced as error localization has
been simplified by means of the status displays of operating statuses
and display of function-readiness of
connected slaves by means of LEDs
on the front panel.

CP 243-2
The CP 243-2 is the link of the masters
of the new, innovative generation of
SIMATIC S7-200 to the AS-Interface.
This considerably increases the number of digital inputs/outputs available
and makes the SIMATIC S7-200 a more
flexible component which can be used
for a wider range of applications.
The CP has the following additional
functions:
Simple operation in I/O address
range of the SIMATIC S7-200
The CP monitors the AS-Interface
mains voltage.
CP 343-2
The CP 343-2 is the AS-Interface
master for the SIMATIC S7-300 programmable controller and the ET 200M
distributed I/O device. The communications processor has the following
additional functions:
Operating status displays and Ready
displays of connected slaves by
means of LEDs on the front panel.
It is possible to set up flexible distributed structures when used in conjunction with the ET 200M DP slave.
Reduces the costs of storage and
stocking spare parts, as the CP can
be used both for the SIMATIC S7-300
and for the ET 200M.
It is also suitable for complex applications, as up to 62 slaves can be connected and it has an integral analog
value processing system.

Transition from PROFIBUS-DP to AS-Interface

DP/AS-Interface Link 20E

The DP/AS-Interface Link 20E connects
PROFIBUS-DP to the AS-Interface and
has the following additional functions:
The Link 20E is a PROFIBUS-DP
slave and an AS-Interface master in
one.
Power is supplied via the AS-Interface cable, so no additional power
supply is required.

PROFIBUS-DP/PROFIBUS-PA

PROFIBUS-DP
(distributed peripheral=distributed I/O)
is used for connecting distributed field
devices, e.g. SIMATIC ET 200 with
very fast reaction times.
PROFIBUS-PA
(process automation)
extends PROFIBUS-DP by additional

activation of DP slaves.
It enables a partially process-oriented automation solution set-up
using multiple CPs.
The SIMATIC S7-300 can be incorporated into existing systems by means
of S5-compatible communication.
The CPs can be used for a universal
range of applications thanks to the
parallel use of different communications protocols on a single CP.
The CP is especially suited to control
functions thanks to SYNC/FREEZE
and the equidistant bus cycle.
The CP permits comprehensive operation and monitoring using a multiplex function with OP communications (16 S7 connections and 16 OP
connections).
The function blocks for PROFIBUS-DP are included in the standard
STEP 7 library. The function blocks for

Data communications
Industrial Ethernet and ITlution

The efficient use of innovative network

and information technology (IT) is
becoming an increasingly decisive factor for companies active in all sectors of
industry.
Simple, cost-effective and secure
access to the required information is
crucial.
When it comes to automation, there is a
demand for products which integrate
the controllers into global corporate
networks.
Devices and systems must communicate seamlessly with one another, both
in terms of production and administration.
This requires a high-performance IT
infrastructure, that is to say networks
and IT systems which connect the
office to the production line and the
individual workstations to the
machines.
Network and IT system integration is
therefore a key factor in the success of
a company.
Information technology, incorporating
e-mail and Web technology, is integrated into SIMATIC by means of
Industrial Ethernet.
In the office, e-mail and Web browsers
are now established as popular forms
of communication. Data largely travel
across Ethernet connections, and
sometimes through the telephone network or across the Internet. Thanks to
the TCP/IP protocol, these forms and
channels of communications are also
available for SIMATIC. In addition,
SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) is
used for e-mail and HTTP (Hyper Text
Transfer Protocol) is used for access
through Web browsers.

Data communications
Industrial Ethernet and ITlution

IT communication not only incorporates

SIMATIC into global automation
through Industrial Ethernet, it can also
be used on a local basis. In the office,
e-mail and Web browsers are now
established as popular forms of communication. Data largely travel across
Ethernet connections, and sometimes
through the telephone network or
across the Internet. These forms and
channels of communications are also
available for SIMATIC thanks to the
TCP/IP protocol in general and especially SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) for e-mail, and HTTP (Hyper Text
Transfer Protocol) for access with Web
browsers.
Remote Access Service
Remote, global access with the IT communications processors can be through
an ISDN router or via the Internet.
The example configurations in Figs. 23
and 24 demonstrate the use of the CPs
and the communications channels via
Ethernet, an intranet or the Internet.
Remote access via an ISDN router
ISDN routers are primarily used as
connections in countries where ISDN
is widespread and
occasional connections, i.e. non
standing lines.
ISDN enables connections to be made
rapidly, transmits telephone numbers,
and enables high transmission speeds
of up to 128 kbit/s.
Remote access via the Internet
is recommended if the transmission
costs play a decisive role, e.g. across
long distances, such as from Europe to
America, or for permanent or extensive
use.
The disadvantages of this solution are
the relatively high acquisition costs, the
incalculable data speeds and the need
for appropriate Internet access.
CP 343-1 IT
The CP 343-1 is the connection for the
SIMATIC S7-300 to Industrial Ethernet
(10/100 Mbit/s) with full duplex connection and auto-sensing for automatic
switching. The CP has universal connection options for ITP, RJ45 and AUI,
which enables multi-protocol mode
using ISO and TCP transport protocols.

Data communications
Industrial Ethernet and Component based Automation

Component based Automation is the

name of the new TIA concept for modular plant and machine construction.
It utilizes the advantages of the component technology which is already
established in the software world.
In this manner, exceptional increases in
productivity can be achieved for engineering and commissioning.
The PROFInet standard defined by
PROFIBUS International is used to
implement Component based Automation.
This standard permits:
Component technology for automation functions
Graphic configuring of communication between intelligent devices,
instead of programming
Cross-vendor, plant-wide engineering
Component based Automation permits access to the variables of
PROFInet components from all standard PC applications with an OPC
Client interface, e.g. visualization
systems.
OPC Servers can be used to directly
select the objects from a list of variables for the respective PROFInet
component.
PROFInet products
Initial PROFInet-compatible products
for Component based Automation are
being tested in selected projects and
practical field use:
CP 343-1 PN for connection of
SIMATIC S7-300 to PROFInet
PC-based control SIMATIC WinAC
Basis with software PLC (with PROFInet proxy function)
IE/PB Link as compact transition
between Industrial Ethernet and
PROFIBUS, operating as PROFInet
proxy
PN OPC Server for access of PC
applications to data in PROFInet
devices
SIMATIC ProTool/Pro visualization
software
SIMATIC iMap configuration software

RJ45 and AUI
Selectable keep alive function
TCP transport protocol
The CP 343-1 PN complies with the
PROFInet communications standards
according to PROFInet Standard V1.0.
The CP 343-1 PN offers the following
communications functions:
PG/OP communication
S7 communication
S5-compatible communication
Multicast function with UDP
The CP has the following additional
functions:
Remote programming and initial
start-up are possible via the network.
The CP permits a consistent modular
design of plants/machines by simple
handling of distributed intelligence.
The process data can be accessed
from all company levels.
A plant can be optimized from a
central point.
STEP 7 programs can be loaded from
a central point.
Using the CP 343-1 PN, it is possible
to make a link to existing plants using
S7 communication or S5-compatible
communication.
IE/PB Link
The IE/PB Link, as a stand-alone component, provides the seamless transition between Industrial Ethernet and
PROFIBUS. For example, HMI systems
can simply access field devices on the
PROFIBUS from the Industrial Ethernet.
This permits vertical integration from
the operations management level down
to the field level.
The IE/PB Link supports the PROFInet
functionality. It is used for Component
based Automation on the basis of the
new PROFInet standard from the PNO.

Fig. 26: CP 343-1 PN

Fig. 27: IE/PB Link

The IE/PB Link additionally offers the

following functions:
S7 routing permits network-independent PG/OP communications, i.e. all
S7 stations can be remote-programmed from the programming
device on the Industrial Ethernet or
PROFIBUS.

HMI stations can access visualization

data of S7 stations on the PROFIBUS

from the Industrial Ethernet.
Data set routing
It is then possible, for example, to
carry out parameterization and diagnostics for a PROFIBUS field device
using SIMATIC PDM (on the PC) on
the Industrial Ethernet via the IE/PB
Link.

Fault-tolerant and fail-safe communications

Redundancy made-to-measure

Redundant control systems such as the

SIMATIC S7-H system protect against
plant failures.
Fault-tolerant systems
The S7-400H is a fault-tolerant programmable controller whose redundant structure is hidden from the user.
Handling, programming, configuring
and communication are carried out just
like with standard S7-400 systems.
Redundant connections are created
depending on the network topology,
and are selected automatically and
without data loss in the event of a fault.
The I/Os are connected using redundant PROFIBUS-DP lines.
Fail-safe systems
SIMATIC S7-400F/FH is a fail-safe controller based on the S7-400H. It immediately enters a safe state when a fault
occurs, thus guaranteeing maximum
safety for persons, machines, environment and process.
The S7-400F is a component of Safety
Integrated, the Siemens safety program based on SIGUARD, SIMATIC
and SINUMERIK/SIMODRIVE products.
Communication between the CPU and
the F signal modules (F-SM) is via a
protocol profile "ProfiSafe" developed
together with the PNO for the PROFIBUS-DP. The S7-400F/FH can additionally be operated in fault-tolerant mode.
Redundant networks
S7-REDCONNECT guarantees problem-free communication between PC
applications (e.g. WinCC) and
S7-400H via redundant networks. PC
applications already using S7 communication (e.g. via the OPC interface)
can be used further without change.
Redundant Industrial Ethernet and
PROFIBUS networks can be designed
using OSM, ESM, OLM.
A ring circuit means that the network
continues to function if there is a failure
in one of the transmission links; if a network component fails, only the stations
connected to it are no longer accessible (see Fig. 30).
