3. Motivation
What did you form in our
puzzle board?

Maam, we formed a picture

of a dish.

Who can guess the name of our

dish?
What vegetables were used in
the dish?
Do you eat these kinds of vegetable?
4. Infusion of Value

B. Developmental Activities
1. Presentation
Strategy: Problem Opener
I have here a word problem about the picture. Will you read, Carl?
Nathaniel learned how to cook beef sinigang. He used 0.5 kg of
radish, 0.25 kg of okra and 0.75 kg of tomatoes. How many kilograms of
vegetables did he use?
2. Analyzing the Problem
Ask the following questions.
a. What is asked in the problem?

The problem asks the

number of kilograms of
vegetables used?

b. What are the given facts?

The given facts are 0.5 kg

of radish, 0.25 kg of okra
and 0.75kg of tomatoes.

c. What operation is to be used?

The operation to be used

is addition.

d. How will you solve the problem?

By adding the addends,

maam.

Will you write the number sentence?

0.5 + 0.25 + 0.75 = N

3. Discussion
If you are to write the given facts
in column as addends, how do they appear?

0.5

Who will write the addends in column?

0.25

How are the decimal points placed?

0.75__

Who will come to the front and

solve for the answer?

0.5

Where did you start adding?

0.25

How did you write the decimal point

0.75___

in your answer?

1.50 kg of vegetables

Is her answer correct?

Yes, Maam.

So, what is the answer to our problem?

1.5 kg of vegetables, maam.

4. Giving Other Examples

Strategy 2: Tossing Dice
I have here 2 dices with decimals on the six sides. Im going to
toss them . Will you read the decimals on the top side of the dice?
If you are to get the sum of the decimals, how do you write them?
Will you solve it on the board? Others will solve it on your paper.
What is the answer? Did you get the same answer?
5. Fixing Skills
I have here a magic tree.
Why do you think it is called a
magic tree?

Maam, the fruits are dishes.

At the back of each dish, is an equation

for you to solve. You are going
to get the sum of each.
Who will ome and pick one dish and
solve the equation at the back?
Find the sum.
1.
2.

0.391 + 0.58 = 0.971

0.267 + 0.25 + 0.941 = 1.458

3.

2.3 + 0.732 + 0.67 = 3.702

4.

4.203 + 0.275 = 4.478

5.

0.843 + 0.71 + 0.2 = 1.753

C. Post Developmental Activities

1. Generalization
How do we add decimals, Orson?
In adding decimals:
1. Write the addends in column.
2. Align the decimal point.
