InTASC Standard 10: Leadership and Collaboration

InTASC Standard 10, Leadership and Collaboration, discusses mainly the
importance of teachers playing an active role as a leader in the classroom and out of the
classroom. In order to reach this standard as a teacher, a teacher may participate in
leading or participating in clubs and outside organizations. For example, my mentor
teacher at Magnolia Middle School is a part of the curriculum writing team for 7th grade
Life Science in Harford County. My mentor teacher expressed how this opportunity
allowed her to improve her practice through trying new instructional strategies as she was
piloting the new curriculum. It is also essential for teachers to collaborate with other
professionals in the school. For example, my mentor teacher at Bel Air High School has
on worked closely with the guidance counselor to resolve certain issues with students as
well as communicate with parents. As I future teacher, I plan to seek opportunities to
fulfill a leadership role outside of the classroom as well as collaborate with my colleges
to improve instruction.
What is this artifact?
This artifact is the Child Study. I conducted my child study in spring of 2015 at Magnolia
Middle School on a particular student of interest. For this artifact, I collaborated with
mentor teacher, guidance counselor, as well as another teacher on my team, in order to
gain more information on this student. I used the data from my observations to reflect
upon the students behaviors and how I could appropriately plan lessons to teach this
particular student in my classroom.
How does this artifact demonstrate mastery of the InTASC or COE standard?

This artifact demonstrates mastery of the InTASC standard and specifically subsections
10(b), by showing my ability to collaborate with other teachers and professionals to gain
information on a particular student so I can meet the needs of that particular student.
In what way does this artifact contribute to/relate to a positive effect on student
learning?
This artifact contributes to a positive effect on student learning because through
collaboration as well as research, I was determine strategies and particular activities to
encourage this particular student to be engaged in the classroom.
How does this artifact demonstrate the Planning-Teaching-Learning cycle (judging
prior learning, planning instruction, teaching, assessing, analyzing, and reflecting)?
By using in-class observations as well obtaining information as information about the
students needs in the classroom from the counselor and other teachers, I was able to judge
prior to learning. I was able to judge prior to learning because I knew the students needs
in the classroom and judge what classroom activities would be most appropriate for this
particular student. Based upon my judgments, I could plan accordingly for the most
appropriate instruction for that student.
