Radio Frequency (RF) Products

CML's range of Radio Frequency (RF) products provides a selection of modular building
blocks for implementation as part or all of the 'wireless front-end' of a wide range of
constant and non-constant modulation systems.

With an operating frequency range of 100MHz to 1GHz, these products offer: a

combination RF transceiver, a separate RF modulator and receiver and a Cartesian
feedback loop transmitter for efficiency and signal linearisation.

Applications:

• Narrowband data-over-radio: FFSK/MSK/FSK/GMSK/QPSK/QAM

• Linear and non-linear modulation schemes
• Wireless telemetry
• Marine AIS systems
• Software Defined Radio (SDR)
• Satellite terminals
• Digital TV - CATV modulators
• Wi-Max implementations
• Analogue/digital and multimode radio (TETRA, APCO)

Evaluation Example
The EV9910B allows the evaluation of the CMX991 Quadrature/Low IF Transceiver.
The CMX991 is an RF Transceiver IC providing an I/Q modulator and up-converter,
superheterodyne receiver and IF local oscillator.

Access is provided to all CMX991 RF, baseband and control signals by either connectors
or test points.
Test access points are available to accept common test equipments, such as RF and
baseband signal generators and spectrum analysers.
All signal paths are matched by suitable components.
The EV9910B provides an optional lumped bandpass filter plus buffer amplifier at
460MHz (default) to aid evaluation. The overall evaluation frequency range of this
Evaluation Kit is for RF frequencies between 100MHz and 1GHz, with default operation
over 450MHz to 470MHz.

In the form of a populated PCB, this flexible Evaluation Kit enables users to configure
and evaluate the CMX991 device for various applications and frequency bands.
The on-board CMX991 is controlled via its C-BUS serial command/date interface. The
PE0002 Interface Card is available separately to support PC-based control of the
EV9910B.

CFBL system that uses feedback and self-correction indication to adjust its
operation in-line with the measured and the desired signal output.
Direct Conversion Receiver. Where the wanted RF signal is mixed down to

a low-IF or zero- IF frequency.
Differential Quadrature Phase Shift Keying: a modulation technique in
DQPSK which the carrier can assume one of four phases, each change of phase, or
symbol, represented by 2 bits.
Fast Frequency Shift Keying: also known as Minimum Shift Keying (MSK)
FFSK
- A form of frequency modulation.
Frequency Shift Keying: a form of frequency modulation used to transmit
FSK two states of a signal each as separate frequencies.
FSK is characterised by a frequency spacing of 1.
Gaussian Filtered Frequency Shift Keying: an FSK modulation scheme with
GFSK
a Gausian filtered output signal.
Gaussian Minimum Shift Keying: a type of FSK that uses pre-modulation
GMSK Gaussian filtering to achieve high data rates in an FM communications
channel bandwidth.
The process of modulation of a carrier or signal for transmission, also the
Modulation result of this process. The addition of information (or the signal) to an
electronic or optical signal carrier.
MSK Minimum Shift Keying: continuous phase FSK modulation (also known as
FFSK) used to transmit two states of a signal as two separate frequencies
using coherent detection and a frequency spacing of 0.5.
Quadrature Amplitude Modulation: a hybrid amplitude/phase modulation
technique that allows the transmission of four bits of information during a
QAM
signalling interval, and requires less bandwidth than normal amplitude or
phase modulation techniques.
Radio Frequency: generally accepted to range from about 3 kilohertz to
RF
about 300,000 megahertz.
