    Oral medroxyprogesterone is commonly used for abnormal uterine bleeding at doses of 5-10mg daily for 5-10 days. It can also be used as a contraceptive by taking 10mg daily for 10-14 days in anovulatory cycles or 21 days in ovulatory cycles. Depo-Provera is an intramuscular formulation of medroxyprogesterone given as injections every 8-12 weeks. Oral contraceptive pills containing estrogen and progestin are available in various combinations and dosing schedules of 21-28 days of active pills followed by placebo pills. Emergency contraceptive pills containing progestins can be used within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse.
