Senior Lecturer in Creative Advertising

Fixed-term appointment for two years

Reference Number:

Creative Industries Faculty requires a Senior Lecturer in Creative Advertising to provide


academic and professional leadership, through development and management of
postgraduate courses in Creative Advertising, developing links with other teaching areas and
industry, undertaking advocacy in the advertising profession, and overseeing service delivery
and strategic program development. The appointee will also teach in relevant courses in the
faculty and may engage in approved research projects.

Salary: $65 291 to $75 291 pa

DUTY STATEMENT

General standard

A senior lecturer is expected to make significant contribution to the teaching effort of a faculty
or other organisational unit or an interdisciplinary area. An academic at this level is also
expected to play a major role in scholarship, research and/or professional activities.

Specific duties

Specific duties of a senior lecturer may include:

Academic leadership

• Initiation and development of course material


• Course coordination
• Broad administrative functions
• Attendance at faculty meetings and a major role in planning or committee work
• Providing advice and support to more junior academic staff

Research and scholarship

• The conduct of research

Teaching performance and leadership

• Exercising a significant role in teaching and teaching development within the


University
• The conduct of tutorials, practical classes, demonstrations, workshops, student field
excursions and studio sessions
• The preparation and delivery of lectures and seminars
• Supervision of the program of study of honours students and of postgraduate
students engaged in course work
• Marking and assessment
• Consultation with students
• Development and promotion of innovative teaching methods
• Production of teaching materials for students for whom the academic has
responsibility.

Professional leadership

• Substantial involvement in professional activity.

Skill base
A senior lecturer will normally have advanced qualifications and/or recognised significant
experience in the relevant discipline area. A position at this level will normally require a
doctoral qualification or equivalent accreditation or standing. In determining experience
relative to qualification regard shall be had to teaching experience, experience in research,
experience outside tertiary education, creative achievement, professional contributions and/or
technical achievement. In addition a position at this level will normally require a record of
demonstrable scholarly and professional achievement in the relevant discipline area.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Appointees must demonstrate an ability to undertake the duties prescribed for the position
and must possess the necessary skills required for the position.

Subject to the preceding paragraph, to be appointed as a senior lecturer a candidate must


provide evidence of meeting the following selection criteria to the satisfaction of the selection
panel and the authorising officer:

• completion of a doctoral qualification in the relevant discipline area or equivalent


accreditation or standing.
• record of relevant delivery of academic programs to a high standard and ability to
develop scholarly and innovative approaches to teaching and learning
• record of contribution to research demonstrated by publicationsn success in attracting
research funding or attracting funding from other sources
• demonstrated experience in providing leadership in an administrative role in a
University or professional setting
• record of successful interaction with University and/or professional and industry
organisations

Equivalent standing can be demonstrated by comparison of attainment in areas relevant to


academic employment with the standard attained in a doctoral degree in the relevant
discipline area.

ADDITIONAL SELECTION CRITERIA


In making claims for appointment, applicants should generally address the above attached
generic selection criteria for the relevant level of position as well as specifically addressing the
following criteria.

• Evidence of extensive relevant discipline and industry experience in the creative side
of advertising (including copy writing, art direction and production management
across various media including print, TV, radio and web-based delivery)
• The capacity and experience to play a leadership role in the development, delivery
and management of flexible, authentic, work integrated learning environments for
postgraduate programs
• A demonstrated ability to work in collaboration with other disciplines to develop and
deliver courses
• Demonstrated capacity to build effective industry networks
