1.0 Purpose:
This Procedure is intended to provide guidance and instructions for carrying out the
CEP Start-up
2.0 Scope:
a) This Procedure is applicable to CEP in Unit-1 & 2 of OPGS.
3.0 Responsibility:
a) All the personnel involved in carrying out /supervising the above activities are required to
ensure implementation of this procedure and may consult any other relevant documents
indicated under Reference section below.
b) In the event of any changes required in the procedure such changes may be requested
with Site MR, who would take appropriate action with approval from respective
departmental heads.
4.0 Procedure:
4.1
Definition:
OPGS Unit-1&2 is provided each unit with 2 CEP. During starting of CEP, special precaution to
be taken for smooth and accident free operation. This procedure provides the guide lines for
safe operation of CEP.

Scope of application
This procedure is applicable to all DCS operators and shift engineers for following the right
procedure during starting/stopping/changeover of CEP. DGM (Operation) is responsible for
implementation of this procedure.

Open the isolation suction valve of both pumps manually and simultaneously fill
the water into the CST for maintaining the normal level.
4.3.7
Line-up the condensate system for running the pump in recirculation mode.
4.3.8
Check at least one of the ejectors is in service from water side.
4.3.9
Start the pump from DCS and note down the starting current and maintain
21kg/sq.cm pressure in discharge header.
4.3.10
Ensure that the pump is running smoothly and no abnormal sound is coming.

Ensure that there should be no water leakage in the system.
4.3.12
Check all the parameters are showing in DCS are correct.

Monitor the all parameters in DCS for some time and check everything is
normal.

If Stand by CEP is in auto mode, then take it in manual.
4.5.2
Ensure the readiness of the CEP which is going to change over.
4.5.3
Check the discharge valve of standby pump, it should be closed.
4.5.4
Start the standby pump, and control the header pressure by CEP recirculation
CV.
4.5.5
Ensure the discharge MOV of standby pump is opening normally.
4.5.6
Ensure the header pressure is 21kg/sq.cm and check the current for Both CEP
and ensure both are equally loaded.
4.5.7
Stop the previously running pump; control the header pressure by CEP
recirculation.
4.5.8
Check the discharge MOV of pump is closing.
4.5.9
Check all the running parameters of started CEP, and put the previously running
CEP in auto standby.
