Delaware County, Ohio has a unique combination of big-city meets small town feel to it.

Thats exactly why my wife and I chose to move here to start a family. As a newly married

couple we knew what we wanted the many convinces of Columbus, where we were both from,

but not the many hassles like traffic and neighbors houses built on top of ours. Delaware, the

county seat of Delaware County, was the perfect middle ground. Town has the quaint small-town

charm that we wanted, and is a 15-30-minute drive from Columbus for anything we might not

have here. Delaware County was named after the Delaware Indian tribe, and Rutherford B.

Hayes was born and raised here. In 2008 Delaware County was rated as the fifth best place to

raise a family (Forbes, 2008).

One of the biggest draws is the vastness of nature and nature-related activities that can be

enjoyed in Delaware County. The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is constantly top rated in the

nation so one of (or the) best zoo in American. Jack Hannah is a nationally recognized

personality and world renowned director emeritus. With more than 7,000 animals from over 800

species the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is an amazing attraction that sees more 2.3 million

visitors annually (Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, 2017). The Columbus Zoo is expansively laid

out over 580 acres. The nonprofit has contributed to efforts in over 30 countries, as well as also

has another animal conservation center in Southeastern Ohio. Lastly, the Columbus Zoo also has

an 18-hole golf course, the Zoombasi Bay water par, and Jacks Landing season region, and is in

the process of building a hotel overlooking the property.

The Little Brown Jug is a tradition in harness racing and part of the Grand Circuit of

horse racing. A half-mile track was built in 1939, and is a nationally recognized milestone in the

sport. In 1944 the Little Brown Jug was born and the first purse race was in 1946 for $35,358-

quite a lot of money for the time (Little Brown Jug, n.d.)! Through the years, the track and race

have gained world recognition as one of the fastest strips in the country. Starting in 1956 the

Little Brown Jug became the anchor for the Triple Crown along with the Cane Pace at Yonkers

Raceway (N.Y.) and Messenger Stake (N.Y.). The Little Brown Jug is considered an integral part

of Americana and a unique part of Delaware County.

Delaware County is rich in nature Alum Creek State Park and Delaware State Park offer

swimming, boating, water skiing, picnicking, fishing, hiking, mountain biking, bridle trails,

wildlife areas, bird watching, and winter recreation. Delaware County has another 6 parks, 3

reservoirs, 5 campgrounds to enjoy year-round. To add to that, there are another 8 preservation

parks that make Delaware County ideal for nature enthusiasts (Delaware, n.d.).

Delaware County has the second highest bond rating. It is ranked the third healthies

county in Ohio for the third year in a row, first in health factors and behaviors, 38th nationally

ranked for health. It is the number one county in growth for seniors. It is ranked in the top 10

nationally for persons 25-38 making over $125,000 yearly. It is forecasted by state researchers to

be the fastest growing county in the state, and expected at a triple digit pace between 1990 and

2030 (Delaware, n.d.).
