The passage discusses the digestive system and how food is broken down as it passes through the body.

The main parts of the digestive system discussed are the mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, liver, pancreas and gallbladder.

Digestion begins in the mouth and involves the breakdown of food through mechanical and chemical processes as it moves through the digestive tract, with enzymes aiding in the breakdown of food into nutrients.

Lesson Plan in Biology

Grade 8
I.OBJECTIVES:
The student will:
1. Identify the key components of the digestive system.
2. Describe the path of food as it passes through the body.
3. Explain the parts of the digestive system.
II. SUBJECT MATTER:
Topic: Digestive system
Science concept: The job of the digestive system is to break down the
food
into smaller units called nutrients.
References: Science for Daily Life Use pp. 30-31
Processes: Identifying, labeling, understanding and appreciating
Materials: *Sample of food like cracker and banana
* Illustration
Value infusion: The importance of the digestive system in our body
III. PROCEDURE:
(4As Approach: Activity, Analysis, Abstraction, Application)
A. Preliminary Reports
1. Opening Prayer
2. Checking of Homework
B. a. Motivation
1. Give each of your student a piece of banana.
2. (Ask) have you ever wonder what happens to the food you eat?
3. (Ask) where do you think the food goes?
b. Presentation
1. Show the illustration of the digestive system
2. Define what is digestive system and its job to our body.
3. Discuss the function of each part.
C. Lesson Proper
A) ACTIVITY: Give each student a piece of a cracker and tell them
to take a bite. Ask them not to chew or swallow the cracker, just
hold it in their mouth. Ask the following question:
1. What happen to the cracker when it was in your mouth?
2. Why did it start to get softer?
3. What did you taste?
4. Let them discuss the process of digestion
B) ANALYSIS:
1. Where does digestion start?
2. Where are the partially food enters?
3. What is the last process of digestion?
C) ABSTRACTION (GENERALIZATION):
Digestion- The breakdown by enzyme action of large insoluble food
particle prior to absorption and assimilation.
