Start By:
A. Remove the radiator, the refrigerant condenser, the hydraulic oil cooler and the transmission oil cooler. Refer to
Disassembly and Assembly, "Radiator, Refrig Condenser, and Hyd and TMSN Oil Cooler - Remove".
NOTICE
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during

performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair
of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers
before opening any compartment or disassembling any component
containing fluids.
Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service

Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain
fluids on Caterpillar products.
Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Note: Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all wires, and on all tubes for installation purposes. Plug all
lines, hoses, and tubes. This helps to prevent fluid loss and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.

1. Disconnect ground cable assembly (1) in order to disconnect the batteries.
2. Remove bolts (3) and plate (4). Repeat for the other side of the cab. Remove floor mat (2) .
3. Position plate (5) to the side.
4. Remove exhaust pipe (6) .
5. Remove cover (7) .
6. Disconnect hoses (8) and harness assemblies (10) from tank (9) .
7. Disconnect hose (11) and harness assembly (12) .
8. Remove bolt (13). Repeat for the other side.
9. Remove bolt (15) from each side of the machine. Use two people in order to remove frame assembly (14). The
weight of frame assembly (14) is approximately 20 kg (45 lb).
10. Disconnect harness assemblies (17) and harness assembly (18) from electric starting motor (16). Remove all
necessary cable straps (19) .
11. Remove all necessary cable straps (20). Disconnect harness assemblies (21), (22), and (23) from alternator (24) .
12. Disconnect harness assembly (25) for the heater. Remove all necessary cable straps (27) and place harness
assembly (26) to the side.
13. Remove clip (28) from the bottom right side of the bell housing.
14. Disconnect harness assemblies (30), (31) and (32). Disconnect tube assemblies (29) .
15. Disconnect harness assemblies (34). Disconnect heater hose (33) .
16. Disconnect hose (38). Disconnect harness assembly (35). Disconnect heater hose (37). Disconnect throttle cable
(38) .
17. Remove clip (39) and place heater hoses (37) and (33) to the side.
18. Remove clip (42). Place throttle cable (36) to the side. Remove clip (41). Disconnect hose (40) .
19. Disconnect harness assembly (43) and hose (44) .
20. Use Tooling (A) in order to remove engine oil filter (46). Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine
Oil and Filter - Change". Disconnect engine oil dipstick (45).
21. Remove clip (47) from engine oil dipstick (45) .
22. Remove clip (48) and remove engine oil dipstick (45) .

23. Remove bolts (49) from transmission oil filler tube (50) .
24. Remove clip (51) from transmission oil filler tube (50) .
25. Remove clip (52). Remove transmission oil filler tube (50) from the bottom of the machine.
26. Remove clip (53) from the hydraulic oil filler tube.
27. Remove bolts (55) and (56) from hydraulic oil tank (54). Repeat for the other side.
28. Remove clip (57) .
29. Remove clip (58) .
30. Install Tooling (B) under the transmission.
31. Attach Tooling (C), Tooling (D), and a suitable lifting device to engine (59). The weight of engine (59) is
approximately 454 kg (1000 lb).
32. Remove access plate (60) .
33. Remove bolts (62) from flywheel (61) .
Note: The engine must be manually rotated in order to access all bolts (62) .
34. Remove bolts (63) from bell housing (64) .
Note: Note the location of the ground cable (not shown) and the ground wires (not shown) for assembly purposes.
35. Remove mounting bolt (65) from each side of the engine.
36. Remove engine (59) .

32. Remove access plate (60) .

33. Remove bolts (62) from flywheel (61) .

34. Remove bolts (63) from bell housing (64) .

36. Remove engine (59) .
