Group Dance Criteria for Judging

A. CONTENT. 30%

1. Variety of dance positions, dance movements, and/or combinations as appropriate to the specific
dance.

2. Difficulty of dance movements and/or combinations from one dance position or alignment to
another.

3. Uniqueness or originality of dance movements and/or combinations from one dance position or
alignment to another, to include presentation of dance position.

4. Continuity of dance movements and/or combinations to either interpret dance theme and music, or
to demonstrate dance control. This refers to exceptional phrasing which includes spontaneous
adjustments of dance pattern for irregularly phrased musical selections.

B. EXECUTION. 30%

1. Basic pattern, rhythm, timing, and initial phrasing between partners and to the selected music. For
correctly phrased musical selections, phrasing may be shifted for momentary variation, but generally
should be maintained throughout the specific dance.

2. Proper performance of footwork, hand, head, arm, and body movements through dance variations; to
include balance and centering through executed movements.

3. Alignment, framework, and proper presentation of dance positions; to include smoothness of follow
through from movement into position; to demonstrate properly initiated lead and follow technique
from position into movement.

C. STYLE. 30%

1. Artistic interpretation and choreography projected through dance movement as it relates to the
selected music and the specified dance category.

2. Attentiveness, enthusiasm, enjoyment of the dance, and general good partnership as perceived
through appropriate presentation of lead and follow roles.

3. Flair and accent of dance movement, generating an atmosphere and instilling a mood appropriate to
the specific dance category.

Maglalatik Street Dance Competition 2016

GENERAL GUIDELINES:

1. The competition is open to all schools within Bian City and shall highlight the theme:

Makisaya! Makisayaw! Makiisa!

2. Registration is on January 5 to 13, 2016 (look for Allan Gonzales (09052460023)/Virginia Almarinez
(09192839270) at the Office of the City Mayor).

3. Elimination is on January 22 (Town Proper) and January 23 (Outlying). Props and costumes shall have
no bearing during the elimination. Only the top 10 contingents from Elementary division and top 10
from the High School, Vocational and College division shall be included in the parade and showdown.
The decision of the Board of Judges Shall be final.

4. Absolutely, no participants or contingent representative shall contact, in any way, or manner any
judge with the intention of influencing the Board of Judges. Should anybody be caught, the contingent
shall automatically be banned in joining the festival for the current year and the next years festival.

5. In order to preserve the democratic, cultural and ecumenical objectives of MAGLALATIK, participants,
participants are prohibited from exhibiting or manifesting acts or gestures or designs, offensive to any
groups, organizations or movements. In the event of any violations of this rule the committee reserves
the right to disallow the offending contingent to continue further its participation in the parade.

6. There will be two (2) judging area during parade wherein the contingents are allowed to show their
dance exhibition/routine for two (2) minutes.

7. MAGLALATIK STREET DANCE parade and showdown criteria for judging:

PERFORMANCE 40%

(Precision and coordination, projection and dynamism, fluency and choreography, alignment, balance
and focus, rhythmic and spatial interest)

COSTUMES and PROPS 20%

(Artistic choice of color combination, style and accessories. Effective use of props relevant to the
interpretation of the theme/concept)

MUSICALITY/THEMATIC INTERPRETATION 30%

(Adherence to the use of MAGLALATIK Dance and beat)


VISUAL IMPACT 10%

(unified and coherent impact of the whole presentation)

TOTAL 100%

GUIDELINES

1. The dance entry must depict any theme or concept that is relevant to MAGLALATIK and emphasize
the tradition embodied by the Maglalatik dance . emphasis must be given to the concept of devotion,
merry making of promotion of commerce.

2. This years (2016) official beat of Maglalatik shall be used, and no other variations may be allowed.
The CDs shall be provided by the organizers upon registration. Any other beat is strictly prohibited.

3. Total number of contingents must consist of a minimum of 8 to a maximum of 10 contingents both in


Elementary Division and College and High School Division.

4. The composition of contingent shall be within the minimum of 30 and a maximum of 50 dancers, a
minimum of 5 to maximum of 10 instrumentalist/support staff/props man. Instrumentalist as part of
the contingent must be in proper attire consistent to their motif/theme. All members must be legitimate
student of the School (A.Y. 2015-2016)that they are representing.
