BRAIN DRAIN is BAD....

INTRODUCTION

Human capital flight, sometimes called brain drain, refers to the emigration of
intelligent, well-educated individuals for better pay or conditions, causing their
places of origin to lose skilled people, or "brains." Typically, such emigrating
individuals have learned English and have moved to the United Kingdom, the
United States or some other English-speaking country. Brain drain is common in
developing nations, particularly in former African colonies of the United Kingdom,
the island nations of the Caribbean, and in centralized economies such as the
former East Germany and the Soviet Union. China and India have recently topped
the list of those nations experiencing an exodus of skills and intelligence through
human capital flight.

And, as is clear from this definition, brain drain is a word with a bad connotation.
So, it is no wonder that we hear our politicians, statesmen and intellectuals often
mourning brain drain.

TYPES OF BRAIN DRAIN

There are several types of brain drain:

Organizational: The flight of talented, creative, and highly qualified

employees from large corporationse.g. Yahoo, HubSpot, and Microsoft
that occurs when employees perceive the direction and leadership of the
company to be unstable or stagnant, and thus, unable to keep up with their
personal and professional ambitions.

Geographical: The flight of highly trained individuals and college graduates

from their area of residence, for instance, those migrating from the mid-
western United States to the coastal states and large metropolises.

Industrial: The movement of traditionally skilled workers from one sector of

an industry to another. For example, jobs in the United States and other
governments, also known as the public sector, have experienced significant
generational brain drain as tenured boomer generation employees retire.
Heightened competition for talent from the private sector and budgetary
constraints have made it increasingly difficult to attract replacements for
these retirees.

DISADVANTAGES

Due to the influence of brain drain, the investment in higher education is lost as
the highly educated person leaves India and becomes an asset to other country.
Also, whatever social capital the individual has been a part of is reduced by his or
her departure.
With all the college graduates leaving their homelands, it raises the question as to
whether their skills are being put to good use in the destination country.
The chances of Brain Waste are possible. I
n a similar way, there is a shortage of skilled and competent people in India.
A tremendous increase in wages of high-skill labour can be seen now in India.
The emigration has also created innumerous problems in the public sector

SOLUTIONS
1. Good governance at the national and international level, especially
maintenance of reasonable security for peoples' lives and property is essential for
economic progress, Thus withholding political and economical emigrants, who
blame their government's failure for political unrest and stagnant economic
growth is possible. Transparency in leadership is essential and should be
maintained.

2.Offering higher wages for `insiders` according to their qualifications is essential,

instead of over estimating and hiring expatrates, which are more costly.

3. Education plays a powerful role especially in the growing problems of

international migration.

Therefore, offering these individuals the necessary education qualifications in

their home countries, and expanding a better educational infrastructure may
definitely prevent emigrants who are seeking a higher education abroad.

4. Seeking alternative measures for return of warranty from the beneficiaries,

such as the withholding of academic degrees until the graduates return and are
willing to serve the people, may be another considerable alternative.
5.The last alternative measure could be, taxing emigrants who are indigenously
trained in home countries. This is indeed a sensitive issue and may sound absurd,
and may potentially infringe on the basic human right and freedom to chose the
nature and location of individuals where to live and where to work. Thus, it must
be agreed upon the international community and international laws.

6.Since richer African States are also the stakeholders of this so called brain drain,
a deal must be made between rich and poor states of the continent that prohibits
the later from taking intellectuals of the poorer states.

CONCLUSION
Brain drain, a word which you might have heard many times. Brain drain is a
phenomenon under which people of a nation move to another nation due to
financial benefits and also due to more upgraded status, but there are many more
reasons behind it. If we think deeply to the topic we would find that this
phenomenon has more disadvantages than advantages on India.
Today in the 21ST century when most of 80% of world has reached to the peak of
Modernization, India is considered under those 20% which is yet to develop.
Inspite of having a strong educational infrastructure, millions of intelligent,
hardworking Engineers, doctors and billions of man power, WHY INDIA IS STILL
LAGING BEHIND? Yes Brain drain is one of the reasons behind this lag. Today man
needs money not a prosperous motherland; thirst for money has enshrouded the
conscience of people.
You would find students born and nurtured in India, having no love for
motherland; instead they are serving other countries. India is investing lakhs and
lakhs of money in the education of Indian students
But in return more than half of the students pay zero benefit in technological
ground to India.
The Government is also responsible for Brain drain. The salary paid by Indian
companies is much less then multinational foreign companies. Due to corruption
the intelligent and intellectual educates are unable to make a possible space for
them in India. Also, people of India are now keener to adopt Western culture
because they find it more comfortable. Yet, also the status and facilities provided
by foreign companies are much high in quality and quantity than India. Also, some
people find it a matter of pride and dignity to work as an employee in foreign
countries. Hence, these are some of the key points for Brain drain.
Brain drain also provides some advantages to India. Indians living in foreign help
foreigners to know about Indian cultures and traditions. Also, Indians living in
foreign give information about various natural beauties and tourist spots in India
which encourages them to visit India. This in turn increases tourist income in
India. Brain drain also helps in increasing foreign exchanges of India. Thus,
primafacie brain drain is a helpful process.
But at last after all the discussion you would find that brain drain has more
disadvantages than advantages on India. So, to stop brain drain NGOs should
come forward to aware people about its harmful effects. Also Government should
provide opportunities to best candidates and should provide them handsome
salary, so that Indians can serve their own mother nation. Moreover Indian
Government should enact some necessary laws to stop Indians to migrate to
foreign countries.
BUT OF ALL IT IS THE HUMAN OWN MORAL SENSE AND CONSCIENCE FOR
MOTHERLAND WHICH SHOULD ENCOURAGE THEM TO SERVE ITS OWN MOTHER
NATION.
