Quiz 1 2017

This document contains information and equations related to hydrology concepts including evaporation, transpiration, evapotranspiration, and infiltration. It includes three quiz questions asking to: (1) define an index Φ and compute it based on storm rainfall data, (2) identify daily evaporation rates using Mayer and Dunne equations with given temperature, wind speed, and humidity data, and (3) lists various tables with vapor pressure and water property data to aid in calculations.

QUIZ 1-Evaporation, Transpiration, Evapotranspiration and Infiltration 2017

Q1 (a) Define index ?

(2 marks)

(b) A catchment with an area of 0.25 km2 is subjected to a storm with the following
profile as in TABLE Q3 (b). If the volume of storm runoff is 8250 m3, compute
the index .
(6 marks )

(c) Identify the daily evaporation rate for a stream given that the mean value for air
temperature was 85 F, the mean value for water temperature was 60 F, average
wind speed was 19 mph and the relative humidity was 35%. Use the Mayer and
Dunne equations. . Refer to TABLE 3 (c) for vapour pressure value. (Given 1 mb
= 0.75 mm.Hg, 1 in = 25.4 mm, 1 mile = 1.6093 km and C = 0.36).
