Dear Friend,
Greetings once again in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ from
everyone at the Full Gospel Lighthouse Church in Torrington, CT. The
Bible says, “For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same
Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon Him” (Romans 10:12). Isn’t it wonderful
to know that the Lord loves you as well as me? His love cannot see the differences we
see in each other. Our heavenly Father sees each of us and cares for each of us
regardless of our situations or circumstances. He has an answer for each of us if we will
draw near to Him.
Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the
world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be
afraid” (John 14:27). Most people can only leave their heirs money, or worldly goods,
and with that usually comes headaches and worries. But the Lord Jesus left something in
His Last Will and Testament for His people: His peace. What a treasure! He purchased
this peace for us on the cross. It is His. But He willingly gives it to those that serve Him
with all their hearts. It is a gift money cannot buy. To offer Him a million dollars for
this peace is an insult to God. He paid such a great price for us to freely receive it that
nothing we can do or say will give it to us. It is a freedom from the disturbing sense of
sin. He freed us from the bondage of self-condemnation and feelings of unfitness. This
gift of peace enables us to forgive others because we have freely received forgiveness.
Who wants to hold grudges anyway? It does nothing but separates brothers and sisters,
friendships, and neighbors, and causes disease in our bodies. The peace our Lord Jesus
Christ gives us heals and soothes. His peace passes all human reasoning and
understanding because it is not our peace but His. He gives us His peace even when all
reason tells us the situation is impossible.
His peace is a knowledgeable peace given us by His Spirit as we seek Him
with our whole heart. When I surrendered my will to His will, the battle in my heart and
mind ended right there. When I realized there are things I have no control over
(especially others!), and I submitted to His control, peace flooded my soul and I knew
everything would be alright. The conflict ended! I am free from any hostility because
the problem really wasn’t about others anyway: it was all about me. And I have a funny
feeling most of your problems are about you! Those things aren’t going to be in heaven
so God graciously gives us the opportunity to work things out here: forgive where there
needs to be forgiveness, humbleness where we need to become humble, love where we
need to spread love around, and repentance when we need to repent. We can’t do these
things on our own. That’s why the Lord purchased His peace for us on the cross. He
took the punishment for all our sins, errors, mistakes, and misunderstandings. Fear not:
the Lord knows exactly where you are!
There is a beautiful verse of Scripture that we need to keep in mind. Isaiah
26: 3 says, “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee:
because he trusteth in Thee.” The phrase “perfect peace” comes from the Hebrew
words “shalom shalom.” It means so much more than just a greeting. It means peace,
completeness, prosperity, welfare, favour, and every good thing a person can wish for
others. And the writer doubled it! There can be no doubt or any unbelief mixed in here.
What a blessing! But the difference here is that the Lord will keep us in perfect peace if
we keep our minds stayed on Him. That is when we trust Him completely, not putting
our will above His will; submitting to His purpose and allowing Him to direct our steps.
He will keep us in this perfect peace. He will provide all our needs according to His
riches in glory. He will never leave us nor forsake us. He will save us from all our sins
and iniquities and give us His peace that passes all understanding. Look to Him and
trust Him today with all your heart and you will experience this perfect peace that only
Jesus Christ can give!
