Solver Homework

1. A company makes two models of desk chairs, leather model and fabric model. The
company is in the market to maximize profit. The profits realized from the sales are
$300 per chair for the leather model and $250 per chair for the fabric model. Listed
below are production constraints:
a. Only 40 hours of labor are available each day in the production department (a
labor constraint). Each leather model requires 2 hours of labor; each fabric model
requires only 1 hour.
b. Only 45 hours of machine processing time are available per day (a machine
constraint). Each leather model requires 1 hour of machine processing time; each
fabric model requires 3 hours of machine processing time.
c. The company cannot sell more than 12 chairs of the leather model each day (a
marketing constraint).
The company’s problem is to determine how many chairs of each model to produce each
day so that the total profit will be as large as possible.

2. The ABC Manufacturing Co. wants to determine how many units of Brand A and Brand B
personal computers to produce. The products go through three manufacturing
departments as shown below.
Machine-Hour Requirements Capacity Available
Department Brand A Brand B (Labor-Hrs.)
1 1 2 800
2 1 3 600
3 2 3 2,000
Unit Profit $12 $4

If the company wishes to maximize profits, how many units of each Brand should it
produce?
