Murray High School Cheerleading Demerit System (2018-2019)

Attendance
**NOTE: Excused absences from practice OR a game include illness (must be absent 2 or more days)
or attending another school-sponsored event (field trips, participation in other athletic contests,
etc.). The cheerleader must turn in a doctor’s note the following day or note from another school
activity sponsor prior to absence for the absence to be counted as “excused.” Failure to do so will
result in an “unexcused” absence even if your parents call and excuse it from the school.
An excuse for a prolonged event (ex: injury requiring no participation for 1 week) will be treated
as 1 event rather than demerits accumulating for each event missed during that time. For example, if a
cheerleader has an injury keeping her from 2 games and multiple practices, her demerits will be
recorded as one point (excused with doctor’s note).

 Accumulation of 1 demerit results in conditioning. You will be conditioned for EACH

additional conditioning. The cheerleader MUST still dress in uniform, sit with the coach
for the duration of the game, while not using her cell phone or talking
 Accumulation of 8 demerits results in the cheerleader being benched for TWO games (in
addition to the 1 game benched for earning 5 demerits) and additional conditioning
 Accumulation of 10 demerits will result in the cheerleader being ineligible for one term
and additional conditioning.
 Accumulation of 15 demerits will result in removal from the squad.
 All demerits will be erased at the end of each Semester with the exception of those
infractions resulting in 6 or more demerits.

Merits (amount left to coach’s discretion):

I have read and understand my responsibilities as a cheerleader and agree to the conditions set in
the contract. I understand that these guidelines will be STRICTLY enforced, and that if I do not
fulfill my responsibilities I will receive demerits as per the list above, resulting in the
aforementioned consequences. I fully comprehend that I am a representative of Murray High
School and I will make every effort to fulfill my responsibilities in being a positive role model. I
know that my primary job is to be a CHEERleader and to promote and foster an encouraging,
enthusiastic, and spirited environment for my peers and the fans.
