SUBJECT: PREVENTING OCCASIONAL POWER OFF AND NO
CASSETTE FEED
Outline
The routing of the lead wire has been changed to prevent the power from going off occasionally and no
cassette feed situations due to a broken pick-up clutch lead wire.
Details
[Phenomenon]
1. The power is sometimes turned off. The pick-up clutch lead wire breaks.
2. Papers are not fed from the cassette. The pick-up clutch lead wire breaks or is caught inside the sliding
part of the rotating outer ring.
[Cause]
1. • If there is a great deal of slack in the lead wire of the pick-up assembly pick-up clutch (Figures 2-A
[Old] and 2-B [Old]), the lead wire comes into contact with the rotating outer ring of the clutch while it
is contained in the main unit and breaks over time, causing the power to be turned off occasionally.
• If there is no slack in the lead wire of the pick-up assembly pick-up clutch (Figure 2 [Old]), the lead
wire may come into contact with the rotating outer ring of the clutch, breaking the wire over time and
causing the power to be turned off occasionally.
2. As explained above, if the lead wire of the pick-up assembly pick-up clutch breaks, or is caught inside
the sliding part of the rotating outer ring, the clutch may not work, with the result that papers are not fed
from the cassette.

[Factory measures]
Provisional measures
1. The orientation of the cord clamp that determines the route of the lead wire has been changed so that the
amount of slack of the lead wire of the pick-up clutch is reduced. (See Figures 1-A New and 1-B New.)
2. The lead wire has been secured on the connector using a band so that the lead wire of the pick-up clutch
has the appropriate amount of slack. (Fig. 2-New)
Measures for servicing
When either of the aforementioned phenomena occur, or to prevent them from occurring, take out the pick-
up assembly and change the routing of the lead wire of the pick-up clutch as is done in the factory
provisional measure. See the Service Manual for details of removing and attaching the pick-up assembly
(Chapter 4, Section IIIA, “Pick-up assembly,” pages 4-22 to 4-24).
