WRITING RULES

1. FORMAL WRITING

Full forms: no contractions (do not, cannot, I am)

No exclamation marks.

Passive forms: I was taken (I took)

Distant, impersonal tone: It would be advisable to...

Complete sentences: there was no sound (not a sound)

2. INFORMAL WRITING

Contract forms: don´t, can´t, I´m

Use of exclamation marks: I couldn´t believe it!

Common words: enough

Short words: often

No passive forms

Abbreviations: approx.

Friendly, personal tone

Imcomplete sentences: not a sound.

TIPOS DE REDACCIONES

ESSAY

Escribir una redacción es una de las partes obligatorias del examen y es importante cumplir
con el número de palabras que os piden siempre con un estilo formal/neutro.

Consiste en exponer un tema, remarcando dos o tres puntos principal y dando una opinión
final que resuma la idea principal.

Podeís utilizar las ideas que os dan pero siempre dando una parte personal del tema. Debeís
finalizar remarcando cual de los dos puntos o ideas es la más importante y razonando el por
qué de tu elección.

Podéis hacer una redacción en 4 párrafos:

1. Introducción del tema: First of all, i would like to say that nowadays....
2. Se trata uno de los puntos: On the one hand, Fristly, ...
3. Se trata el segundo punto: on the other hand, Secondly, on the contrary...
4. Conclusión final: In conclusion, Finally, To sum up, summing up...

Introducing the topic: some people believe that../It is often said that...

Supporting your argument: Firstly, secondly, last but not least.

Adding information: Inh addition, Furthermore, what is more, moreover.

Expressing an opposite point of view: in the other hand,

REVIEW

Es conveniente darle un título. Se organiza en distintos párrafos. Os debéis centrar en la


información más importante del tema y dando ejemplos reales o datos informativos. La
mayoría del texto debería estar más enfocado a vuestra opinión, más que a los detalles del
tema.

La opinión del que escribe es lo más importante.

LETTER/EMAIL

Este tipo de texto empieza con “Dear...”. Se organiza en distintos párrafos. El primer párrafo
puede introducir la razón por lo que estás escribiendo el texto. El estilo depende de quién sea
el receptor del texto (formal o informal).

- FORMAL

Greeting

Dear Mr/Mrs/Miss/Ms Simpson, --> Yours sincerely

Dear Sir/Madam --> Yours faithfully


- INFORMAL
