Micro-grid Voltage Stabilizer

Concept of micro-grid

Micro-grid (MG) system can be defined as a low voltage (LV) network having
loads with small modular generation systems, power electronic devices and
controllers, which can ensure stable operation during faults and various
network disturbances, eg:- in normal life we consumed more power then the
allowed by the the government in our homes if we crosses this limit this
system automatically shut down the supply of the entire house, which is

monitored by the government this supply. Therefore, MG is one of the

alternative in improving the stability and reliability of the overall power
system.

Power Supply
Power supply is the essential part of any device or project. We are using relay,
microcontroller. These components needs +5V DC supply. So we need a power
supply circuit of +5V DC. Power supply circuit includes step down transformer,
rectifier circuit, filter circuit and regulator circuit. A indicating component is also
attached with the power supply to indicate the power ON condition of power
supply unit.

Also we are using some other power supplies 9V, 12V, 18V and 24V for our
project demonstration
Micro-Controller

A microcontroller is a intelligent device, which take actions according to their

programming. We are using AT89S52 microcontroller. Microcontroller works on
+5V DC power supply. Its a 40 pin microcontroller. This microcontroller has 4
input/output ports. Each port is of 8 bit. Means we can connect up to 32 devices
to this microcontroller. All reed relay are connected to the microcontroller as an
input to microcontroller. LCD is also connected to the microcontroller as a output
device. Microcontroller includes reset and crystal circuit for its own functioning.

Relays
A relay is an electrically operated switch. The relay contacts can be made to
operate in the pre-arranged fashion. For instance, normally open contacts
close and normally closed contacts open. In electromagnetic relays, the
contacts however complex they might be, they have only two position i.e.
OPEN and CLOSED, whereas in case of electromagnetic switches, the contacts
can have multiple positions.
