Strand: Identify whether the number of objects in one group is greater than, less than, or equal to the number of objects in
another group, e.g., by using matching and counting strategies.
Learning Outcome:
- Students will use the words greater than, less than, or equal to compare items
Opening
-Starting with basic steps before each class (greeting, what day is today? what month are we in? who is absent today?)
Time: miuntes
Whole Group
- explain to the class what you are going to do today (less and more) compare the number of objects in two groups.
-Invite 5 students to come to the front of the class. Split them into 2 groups. The first group should have 2 students, and
the other should have 3.
-Ask the class which group has more people and which one has less people.
Activity 1
- Ask learners to listen carefully.
-Give your students the Count the Flowers worksheet to complete.
Walk around the room, checking to make sure that your students are counting accurately and ask them questions.
Activity2
-Give your students the Count the Animals worksheets to complete by themselves.
-Tell your students that for this worksheet, they need to identify which group has more than the other.
-Give your students the Number Match Up worksheet to complete as well.(low level students)
Activity3
Instruct your students to take out a sheet of paper and divide it into two columns.
-Have them draw 5 circles in the first column and 4 circles in the second column.
-Then, direct your students to draw 3 triangles in the first column and 1 triangle in the second column.
-Then, have they drawn an equal number of squares in the second column. Check to make sure that your
students drew two squares in the second column as well.
