REMOTE CONTROL PANEL, RC200 / RC200-NVG
TECHNICAL PRESENTATION
1. GENERAL
1.1. Background
An emergency locator transmitter is an equipment designed to transmit on dedicated frequencies in case of
an emergency.
ICAO Annex 6 defines four types of ELTs:
• Automatic Fixed (AF): ELTs permanently mounted to aircraft and automatically activated when a crash
occurs.
• Automatic Portable (AP): ELTs mounted to aircraft and automatically activated when a crash occurs but
also easily removable from the aircraft from manual activation after a crash.
• Automatic Deployable (AD): ELTs mounted to aircraft and deployed automatically when a crash occurs.
Manual deployment is also possible.
• Survival (S): ELTs removable from aircraft, stowed so as to facilitate its ready use in an emergency to be
manually activated by survivors. Automatic activation by water contact may be applied.
Unlike Survival ELTs that are simply stowed in the cabin, the 3 other types of ELTs require installation on
board the aircraft with specific wiring to an outside antenna and to a remote control panel located in the
cockpit.
Typically, the ELT system is composed of 6 Line Replacement Units (LRU):
(1) Transmitter
(2) Mounting bracket
(3) Remote control panel (optional)
(4) Outside antenna
(5) Programming dongle for pin programming function (optional)
(6) CS144 Interface module (optional) used to transmit the aircraft position in a 144-bit message.

The transmitter, bracket, programming dongle and CS144 Interface Module are installed in the aircraft near
the tail. The outside antenna is mounted on the fuselage near the tail. The remote control panel is installed
in the cockpit and connected to the ELT or the CS144 when this optional equipment is mounted.

TECHNICAL PRESENTATION
3. DESIGN FEATURES
3.1. General
The RC200 Remote Control Panel is designed to be installed in the cockpit to allow the pilots to control the
ELT on board.
The RC200 enables remote control of the primary functions of the KANNAD Emergency Locator
Transmitters (Manual activation, Reset, Test) as well as visual monitoring.
The RC200 remote control panel has two outputs for optional equiment:
• one to drive an outside buzzer (S1820515-06),
• the other from an insulated photovoltaic relay (max.1A, max. 60V) to drive an outside horn or an
annunciator.
3.2. Mechanical design
It is composed of:
(1) a black front plate with white markings
(2) a red 3 position switch with 1 unstable position
(3) a led annunciator:
• red for RC200,
• NVIS compatible green A for RC200-NVG.

3.4. Working modes
The RC200 enables remote control and remote monitoring of the KANNAD ELTs provided that the ELT
switch is in armed position.
3.4.1. Remote Control
Remote control is done through a 3 position switch:
• ON (transmission) enables manual activation of the ELT
• Armed (stand by mode to enable automatic activation by the shock sensor) is an idle position. Unless
there is an emergency, the switch must stay in this position.
• RESET and TEST is used either to stop the ELT transmission if activated or to perform a self-test.
The "OFF" mode is not available on the remote control panel but directly on the ELT itself by switching it in
"OFF" position.
Refer for technical presentation of the ELTs for precise information on these modes.
3.4.2. Monitoring
Monitoring is done through a led operating in the same way than the ELT led:
• Transmission
• 2 Hz pulsed signal during ELT transmission on 121.5 and 243 MHz
• 1 long flash during ELT transmission on 406 MHz (every 50 seconds).
• Self-test
• 1 short flash at the beginning of the self-test sequence
• 3 + N flashes at the end of the self-test sequence if the ELT is faulty (N depends of type of failure)
• 1 long flash at the end of the self-test sequence if the ELT is correct.
Refer for technical presentation of the ELTs for precise information on these modes.

5.2.1. Connections
A single male 9 pin D-SUB connector (J1) enables to connect the RC200 remote control panel to:
• The ELT (Refer to 7.1. Compatibility list) with a 4 or 5 AWG 24 bundle (shielded preferred),
• An outside buzzer with a 2 wire bundle (option),
• A/C power and annunciator or outside horn (option).
On the ELT side, the wires are soldered to a 12 pin plug male (not supplied). This plug can be either a
standard "DIN12 connector" (P/N S1820514-03) or a connector with an integrated serial memory module
called "Programming Dongle" (P/N S1820514-01) (Refer to the ELT Technical Presentation).
On the RCP side, the wires are connected to a female 9 pin D-SUB connector (not supplied):
• Pin 8 (RCP COMMON) has to be connected to Pin G (RCP COMMON) of the ELT.
• Pin 4 (RCP RESET) has to be connected to Pin A (RCP RESET) of the ELT.
• Pin 5 (RCP ON) has to be connected to Pin K (RCP ON) of the ELT.
• Pin 9 (RCP LED) has to be connected to Pin J (RCP LED) of the ELT.
An optional outside buzzer can be connected to Pin 7 (BUZZER OUT) and Pin 3 (BUZZER GND). In this
case:
• Pin 2 (RCP BUZZER) has to be connected to Pin H (RCP BUZZER) of the ELT.

6. INSTALLATION
6.1. Location
The precise location of the RC200 on board is to be determined according to the aircraft manufacturer
instructions.
The RC200 should be installed in the cockpit in an area that is not directly exposed to sun rays.
"ELT controls and displays installed for in-flight use shall be readily accessible from the pilot’s normal seated
position. The pilot shall have an unobstructed view of displayed data when in the normal seated position."
(RTCA DO-183).
6.2. Installation
Before installing the RC200, be sure the location meets the requirements established in RTCA-DO-183
(Refer to 6.1. Location).
The RC200 is designed to be installed either:
• on the instrument panel with 4 screws (rivets bush not supplied recommended):
a cutout must be made and four holes must be drilled on the instrument panel. Use the drilling mask
described below to determine the cutout size, the hole pattern and drill size.

9. MANUFACTURING
9.1. Quality insurance
All aviation equipment manufactured by SERPE-IESM are covered by the JAR21-Sub part G Production
Agreement number F.G.132 delivered by the French Civil Aviation Authority. It is GSAC's responsibility to
control periodically compliance of the production process with Production Agreement Specifications.
The Quality Control integrity of the equipment is attested by the issuance of the Certificate of Airworthiness
(JAA Form 1).
9.2. P/N structure
All series equipment are described in the production management system by an assembly number including
sub-assemblies or components.
The assembly numbers are designated as follows:
S18 XX XXX - XX.(X).(XX)
Evolution index
Amendment
Version index
Unit index
Product range index
Aviation equipment index
The "Part Number" (P/N) corresponds to the first 10 digits of the assembly number.
S18 XX XXX - XX
In case of equipment evolution, if "Form Fit Function" is altered, the Version index is modified.
If not, either Amendment or evolution index will be increased depending on the level of demonstration
required by the Airworthiness Authority to validate the modification.

As a consequence, all series equipment having the same Part Number are fully interchangeable.

9.3. Markings
9.3.1. Name Plate
A label stuck on the side of the RCP gives information on:
• P/N
• Amendment
• Serial Number (S/N)
• Qualification
• Manufacturer name
• Manufacturer code

10.MAINTENANCE POLICY
Considering the moulding technics used for RC200, disassembly of the RCP is extremely inadvisable and
this equipment is considered as "non repairable". No maintenance is therefore scheduled.
