 Distinguish facts from opinion

III. PROCEDURES
A. Presenting the new lesson
 Before proceeding to the lesson proper, the class will start with a game
entitled “WHO AM I?” The students need to answer the following questions
prepared by the teacher. Then at the end of every round, they need to guess
the two mystery words.

B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson


 The two mysterious words are fact and opinion, and that will be our topic for
today - to distinguish facts from opinion.
 “Who among you can still recall if what is fact and what is an opinion?”
C. Presenting examples/instances of the lesson
 A short video clip about the difference of fact and opinion will be shown to the
students. “I have here a short video clip about the difference of fact from
opinion. We will discuss it after so listen carefully.”

Question:
 Did you learn something from the video?
“The video presentation tells that fact is something which can be verified with
evidences and is provable, observable and measurable. Those are
statements that can be proven reliable authority of information such as based
on statistics, scientific law, history book and others. On the other hand,
opinion is something which can’t be proven, and they are based on
someone’s thoughts, feelings and understanding. “

 “Now that we can already distinguish fact from opinion, let us try another
activity. I will you give you certain topics and what you are going to do is to
tell me a fact and an opinion about that certain topic. Are you ready?”

G. Making generalizations and abstraction about the lesson


 What is the difference between a fact and an opinion?
o A fact is a statement that is true and can be verified objectively, or
proven. In other words, a fact is true and correct no matter what. An
opinion, however, is a statement that holds an element of belief; it tells
how someone feels. An opinion is not always true and cannot be
proven.

H. Evaluating Learning
Identify whether the following statements are Fact or Opinion.
1. Manuel Roxas was the 3rd President of the Republic of the
Philippines.
2. My favorite music group is Blackpink.
3. Independence day is celebrated in July in the Philippines.
4. Applicants must pass the screening to be hired in the company.
5. The red velvet cake Mrs. Harvey made was delicious.
6. Students achieving An Honor Roll will be recognized for their hard
work.
7. My Mother feels all students should be required to wear school
uniforms.
8. Alexander Graham Bell was a famous inventor.
9. I really enjoyed the football game last weekend.
10. The Presidential Election is held in May.
IV. AGREEMENT
 Watch a television news and list 5 facts and 5 opinions you heard. Write your
answers on your cattleya.
