PUTTJENTER

(German)

Puttjenter (Pron. Put Yen Ter) Originated in the province of Westphalia. The Rural
people of Germany love to dance, and it is a vital part of their every day life. this dance is
very popular among the peasants.
Music: is composed of two parts: A and B
Count: one, two or one, and, two to a measure
Formation: square, each couple occupying a side of a squares, girls at right side
of the boys.

-I-
Music A
(a) All join hands. Circle left by taking eight walking steps, starting L foot. (8
cts.)
(b) Circle right – repeat (a) going to right. Finish in home positions (8 cts.)

Chorus
Music B
Face corners.
(a) Take three stamps in place (L, R, L) (cts. 1, and 2)
(b) Clap own hands three times (cts. 1, and, 2)
(c) Corners join both hands and swing by taking four skipping steps turning
around clockwise, starting with R foot

Face patrtner.
(d) Repeat all (a-c), with partner.
(e) Boys remain in place. Girls weave clockwise out and in executing twelve
skipping steps to original places. They join R hand with the partner, then
L hand with next boy, R hand with the next boy and so on as they pass
them.
(f) As girls reach their proper places, they join both hands with partners.
Take four skipping steps clockwise, starting with the R foot.
(g) Repeat € and (f). girls remain in place, boys weave in and out
counterclockwise to original place.

Music A
(a) Girls join hands inside the squares. Circle left by taking eight walking
steps, starting with the L foot.
(b) Circle right – repeat (a). finish in home positions.

- III –
Music A
(a) Boys step inside the set and form a Star Right (R Wheel or R hand Mill).
Take eight walking steps around clockwise. Each dancer grasps wrist of
dancer in front.
(b) Drop hands, turn right about. Form a Star Left, repeat (a), moving
counterclockwise.
