FOCUS Liturgy of the Word
Reading/s
First Reading: Galatians 5:22-26 (The fruits of the Spirit).

A reading from the letter of St Paul to the Galatians

The Spirit produces love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness,

faithfulness, humility and self-control. There is no law against such
things as these. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have put to
death their human nature with all its passions and desires. The Spirit
has given us life; he must also control our lives. We must not be
proud or irritate one another or be jealous of one another

The Word of the Lord

Response: Thanks be to God

Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 104:24, 29-30

Response: The Lord Sends put his Spirit
Lord, you have made so many things!
How wisely you made them all!
The earth is filled with your creatures. R.

When you turn away, they are afraid;

When you take away your breath, they die
And go back to the dust from which they came. R.

But when you give them breath, they are created;

you give new life to the earth. R.

Gospel Acclamation (Sung)

Alleluia, alleluia!
“The spirit of the Lord is upon me; he has sent me to bring good news
to the poor”.
Alleluia!
Gospel
Luke 4:16-21 (The Spirit of the Lord is upon me).

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke

Jesus went up to Nazareth where he had been brought up, and on

the Sabbath he went as usual to the synagogue. He stood up to read
the scriptures and was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah. He
unrolled the scroll and found the place where it is written,
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he has chosen me to bring good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives and recovery of sight
for the blind;
to set free the oppressed and announce that the time has come
when the Lord will save his people.”

Jesus rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant, and sat
down. All the people in the synagogue had their eyes fixed on him, as
he said to them, “This passage of scripture has come true today as
you heard it being read.”

Prayer over the gifts

Eucharistic Prayer
Priest: The Lord be with you.
All: And with your spirit.
Priest: Lift up your hearts.
All: We lift them up to the Lord.
Priest: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
All: It is right and just.
Priest:

It is truly right and just,

our duty and our salvation,
always and everywhere to give you thanks,
Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God,
through Christ our Lord.

For through his Paschal Mystery,

he accomplished the marvellous deed,
by which he has freed us
from the yoke of sin and death,
summoning us to the glory of being now called
a chosen race, a royal priesthood,
a holy nation, a people for your own possession,
to proclaim everywhere your mighty works,
for you have called us out of darkness
into your own wonderful light.

And so, with Angels and Archangels,

with Thrones and Dominions,
and with all the hosts and Powers of heaven,
we sing the hymn of your glory,
as without end we acclaim:

Communion

Communion Hymn: This is my Body

This is my body, broken for you,
bringing you wholeness, making you free,
take it and eat it, and when you do,
do it in love for me.

This is my blood poured out for you,

bringing forgiveness, making you free.
Take it and drink it, and when you do,
do it in love for me.

Back to my Father soon shall I go.

Do not forget me; then you will see
I am still with you, and you will know
you’re very close to me.

Filled with my Spirit, how you will grow!

You are my branches; I am the tree.
If you are faithful, others will know
you are alive in me.

Love one another – I have loved you,

and I have shown you how to be free;
serve one another, and when you do,
do it in love for me.

Prayer after Communion

Recessional Hymn:
Shine Jesus Shine (Lord the Light of your
love is shining)
Lord, the light of your love is shining
In the midst of the darkness, shining
Jesus, Light of the world, shine upon us
Set us free by the truth you now bring us
Shine on me, shine on me
Shine, Jesus, shine
Fill this land with the Father's glory
Blaze, Spirit, blaze
Set our hearts on fire
Flow, river, flow
Flood the nations with grace and mercy
Send forth your word
Lord, and let there be light
Lord, I come to your awesome presence
From the shadows into your radiance
By the blood I may enter your brightness
Search me, try me, consume all my darkness
Shine on me, shine on me
As we gaze on your kingly brightness
So our faces display your likeness
Ever changing from glory to glory
Mirrored here may our lives tell your story
Shine on me, shine on me
