Long- and medium-term plans cover National Curriculum
requirements.
The scheme contains a statement of department core values which
influences planning, teaching and learning.
The scheme outlines clearly how pupils should make progress in the
subject term by term and from one year to the next, throughout the
key stage.
Units of work/sequences of lessons have clearly stated objectives
and intended learning outcomes.
Key teaching objectives are linked to formal and informal
assessment opportunities, and the outcomes are used in planning
teaching.
The scheme enables teachers to plan and teach consistently with
colleagues across year groups and throughout the key stage.
The scheme is negotiated and agreed, and is used consistently and
reliably by all teachers involved with the subject at Key Stage 3.
There are clear indications in medium- and short-term plans how
pupils’ individual learning needs will be addressed inclusively.
The scheme provides opportunity and expectations for a variety of
teaching and learning styles.
Homework and independent pupil study/activity are integrated into
the scheme of work.
The scheme incorporates a clear statement about how pupils
should receive feedback on their work and progress through
marking or other means – and this is aligned with whole-school
approaches.
The scheme of work shows clearly how far and in what ways the
subject contributes to whole-school priorities and policies.
Long-, medium- and short-term plans are manageable, time limited
and linked to high quality, well deployed resources and equipment.
The scheme of work outlines clearly the contribution made by other
available staff – e.g. librarians; laboratory technicians; classroom
assistants.
