COLLEGE DEPARTMENT 1

Chapter 1
PROJECT BACKGROUND AND HISTORY

Men and women are conscious when it comes to their hair. They always want
to have straight, shiny and long hair, and at the same time feeling fresh and
relaxed. Those who are in the hot areas want their hair cool and refreshing. Even if
there have many brand of shampoo and conditioner they want something new
that will satisfy their special needs when it comes to their hair.

Shampoos are kind of formulation that are used for hair and body washing or
therapeutic purposes. Shampoos are expected to be much more than mere
cleansing agents. Shampoos have many properties in addition of their detergency,
such as conditioning and hair shining. They are expected to be non-irritating to skin
and mucous membranes (Hilda, 1996; Trüeb, 2001; Feldman and Yentzer, 2009).

There are many different varieties of ingredients for making a proper

shampoo. Each of these ingredients have special role in shampoo’s formulation. The
major ingredients used in making shampoo are detergents (surfactants),
conditioning and active ingredients for hair manageability, additives that modify the
surfactant effect (viscosity control agents, foam stabilizers and viscosity modifiers),
stabilize the product (preservatives and anti-oxidants) and increase its appeal
(fragrances, essence, anti-UV light protector, dyes and ingredients for consistency
and a pearlescent appearance). Some of these additives are arbitrary while many of
them have to be added in a shampoo formulation to increase its stability and safety
(Madani et al., 2011; Trüeb, 2007; Jeffries, 2005; Wolf et al., 2001).

Hair conditioner is a hair care product used to improve the feel, appearance
and manageability of hair. Its main purpose is to reduce friction between strands of

hair to allow easier brushing or combing, which might otherwise cause

damage. Various other benefits are often advertised, such as hair repair,
strengthening, or a reduction in split-ends.

Modern hair conditioner was created at the turn of the 20th century when
perfumer Édouard Pinaud presented a product he called Brilliantine at the 1900
Exposition Universelle in Paris. His product was intended to soften men's hair, including
beards and mustaches.
Mixing shampoo and conditioner may seem like a great way to save time, but
the chemical make-ups of the two are not made for combination. Bottles that come
pre-mixed are your best bet for successful cleansing and moisturizing. Two-in-one
technology first hit the stores in the 1980s; now over 20 percent of shampoo sold has
this technology. Knowing what your hair type needs is key to ensuring proper
cleaning and conditioning levels.
The proponents of NURTURE hair grower hope to be able to produce a 2 in 1
shampoo and conditioner that not use too much chemicals that can be harmful,
instead that will have nutrients found in the Castor oil, Coconut oil and Avocado oil,
this combination causes hair softening and gives hair status like silk mode. In order to
smooth the hair, make them glow and grow faster. The name of the product called
“NURTURE” hair grower that comes from the main ingredients that form in Castor oil,
Coconut oil and Avocado oil because of their natural oils.

Castor oil comes from seeds of the ricinus communis plant, which is native to
tropical areas of Africa and Asia. It is thought to have anti-inflammatory,
antimicrobial, moisturizing, and some other useful properties. Castor oil is considered
as a boon for hair. Whether it’s thinning hair, split ends, dry scalp and frizz, hair growth
problem, it can help to solve almost every hair problems. Castor oil for hair has many
nutrients like vitamin E, omega-9 and 6 fatty acids, and proteins which give it unique

moisturizing properties that are ideal for maintaining healthy hair. Let’s take a look at
how castor oil is good for hair while the,

Coconut oil (Cocos nucifera) is the richest natural source of medium chain
fatty acids (MCFAs), coconut oil is also one of the reasons it can help prevent protein
loss in hair (for some people). Coconut oil’s structure allows it to penetrate hair in
ways that other oils are not able to, which is why some people notice amazing results
relatively quickly when using coconut oil for hair. The idea of putting oil directly in the
hair can seem counterintuitive, especially to anyone with naturally oily hair.

And Avocado Oil (Persea Americana) content monounsaturated fatty acid is

even higher than extra virgin olive oil and is one of the main reasons it is so good for
your hair. Many people’s hair is dry, damaged and weak from poor nutrition, heat
styling, chemical treatments and environmental pollution. Monounsaturated fats,
when applied directly in a hair mask, can moisturize, nourish and strengthen hair
strands, improving the way they look and protecting them from damage. Massaging
avocado oil into your scalp also stimulates blood flow to your hair follicles. With
improved blood flow and circulation to the scalp, more nutrients can reach the
follicles to stimulate new growth and healthier hair in general. Finally, and perhaps
most beneficial for hair care, is monounsaturated fatty acids, phytosterols and high
levels of antioxidants like vitamin E, are well absorbed into our scalp and hair shafts.

The proposed product is a 2 in 1 shampoo and conditioner made from the

extracted oil of Castor, Coconut and Avocado. Needed in making the shampoo
and conditioner are some chemicals like Sodium Lauryl Sulfate as foaming agent,
Coco Diethanol for thickening and foam-stabilizing, Glycerin is needed to prevent
hair fall and maintain moisture, Citric Acid to neutralize the acids or measure the

acidity of aqueous substances. And fragrances of the lavender and rosemary for the
deep conditions of the hair and keeps it shiny, and helps control dandruff.

Castor oil, Coconut oil and avocado oil have many uses: as food, treatment
for wounds and hair treatment. This study is owned at manufacturing Castor oil,
Coconut oil and avocado oil as 2in1 hair grower shampoo and conditioner. Its
purpose is to make your hair long faster and prevent dandruff and itchy scalp; it
makes the hair clean and shiny and makes hair softer and stronger, and lessens the
damage. It has a Citric Acid that helps the stimulation of hair growth and also helps
to make the hair follicles healthy mixed with the oils, to which makes it ideal for use as
shampoo and conditioner.

The target testing areas are Calamba and Los Baños Laguna, where the
product will be distributed to different malls or supermarket. This Proposed project is
for the families that need total protection when it comes to maintaining good hair
condition.
