Potential earthquake hazards, Ground shaking, Ground rupture, Liquefaction, Earthquake -
induced ground subsidence, Tsunami and Earthquake - induced landslide.

PERFORMANCE STANDARD: The learners develop a family emergency preparedness plan


to guide them on what to do before, during, and after an earthquake.
I. Learning Competencies
. By the end of the lesson, the students must be able to:
1. Identify various potential earthquake hazards;
2. Recognize the natural signs of an impending tsunami;
3. Analyze the effects of the different earthquake hazards;
4. Interpret different earthquake hazard maps; and
5. Apply precautionary and safety measures before, during, and after an earthquake.

Materials: Laptop, TV, PowerPoint Presentation, Manila Paper and Marker

ACTIVITY
There will be a video that will be shown to the class. Each group will write down their
observations regarding the video.

ANALYSIS
The teacher will ask the following questions based on the students’ activity:
1. How did you find the video?
2. What is it about?
3. It is destructive? Why?

ABSTRACTION
Discussion on Earthquake Hazard.

Generalization
1. What is an earthquake?
2. How does it affects the earth?
3. Where does it originate?
4. How do earthquake affects the life of the people?

APPLICATION
The learners shall make a family emergency plan for earthquake.

IV. Assessment
Paper and Pencil Test
Answer the following questions correctly.
1. Identify various potential earthquake hazards.
2. Explain the natural signs of an impending tsunami.

V. Assignment
Collect pictures of actual earthquake hazards that occurred in the Philippines. Organize
these pictures in a clear folder and provide as footnotes your analysis on the effects of different
earthquake hazards.
