Synopsis: A Study On Warehouse Management of Lulu: A Case Study of Central Warehouse, Aluva
UAE based LuLu Group opened its first mall in India, constructed at a cost of
Rs.1,600 crore at Edapally junction, Kochi in a 25 Lakh square feet complex on
March 10, 2013. ie. LuLu International Shopping Mall. It is the largest shopping
mall in India in terms of total areas a total retail space of 1.7 million square feet. It
contains more than 215 outlets. LuLu, a predominantly hypermarket and
supermarkets operator, currently has 121 stores across the GCC and India.

The LuLu group brings their 2nd retail project in India to Triprayar
This project aims to study the warehouse operations, material handling and
storage system in the central warehouse of LuLu.
Research Questions
A warehouse is a commercial building for buffering and storage of goods, or an
intermediate area for storage of raw materials or products until they are needed
for production or consumption. Warehousing is an essential component for most
businesses and government organizations. In any Supply Chain, Inventory
Management and Warehousing form a part of operations intensive function and is
one of the key building blocks in the entire chain and the efficiency of the
warehouse operations will determine the further supply chain efficiency.
Therefore, it can be understood that, this study aims to find out the answers of
the following questions:
Objectives
To study the existing Materials Management System in LULU Kochi
Research Methodology
The main methodology for this study will be Key Informant Interviews (KIIS).
Although a combination of KIIS, Observation and Literature Review will be used
for this study. The combination of the stated methods is intended to use for this
study to take advantages of their respective strengths and overcome the
limitations of others.
Expected Contribution
The study is expected to make a critical analysis of the existing material
management system of the organization and may lead to an improved system to
achieve better results in material management system.
Limitations
Both the scope and methodology of this study may hinder the research quality.
The limitation of this study is that, although LuLu has many Central Warehouses
and each of them may have a separate set of warehouse management issues and
limitations to be addressed, this study is only based on the case study of Central
Warehouse, Aluva and its present warehouse management practices. Scopes for
improvements are identified and recommendations are also made accordingly.
However, the time constraint for completion of the research was also one of the
major limitations of the study to some extent.
Further Study
Since the activities of the company are diversified, there is simple scope for
conducting further studies on the subject in other section.
