PSC’s Mandate:

• (a) To provide the leadership, formulate the policies and set the priorities and
direction of all national amateur sports promotion and development,
particularly giving emphasis on grass-roots participation;
• (b) To encourage wide participation of all sectors, government and private, in
amateur sports promotion and development; and
• (c) To supplement government appropriations for sports promotion and
development.

LARO’T SAYA SA PARKE
(SAT – SUN SPORTS-FOR-ALL)

• Laro’t Saya Sa Parke is a park-based and family-oriented sports-for-all program


designed as a national campaign to draw the Filipino Family into playing and learning
sports together. The project is a partnership between PSC and host LGU
GOALS:
1. Sport appreciation for 5 – 20 years old;
2. Lifelong healthy habits for adults and Senior Citizens;
3. Support system from family and peers; and
4. Involvement of the community, GOs and NGOs

PHILIPPINE NATIONAL GAMES
• Centerpiece program for Elite athletes.
• Created by virtue of Executive Order 163, 3 March 1994 signed by former
President Fidel V. Ramos.
• Served as an avenue to scout athletes to be included in pools of national teams that
will compete in international competitions including SEA Games, Asian Games, and
Olympics.
• Local government units (LGU)-based competition.
• Age group: 16-years-old and above.
Philippine Youth Games – Batang Pinoy

• National Sports Development Program for Children


• Created by virtue of Executive Order 44, 2 December 1988 signed by former
President Joseph Estrada.
• Annual national multi – sport competition for the youth in the Philippines.
• Local government units (LGU) – based format.
• Out – of – school youth (OSY) and Indigenous Peoples are allowed to compete.
• Age Group: (1) 13 – 15 years old and (2) Under 13.

WOMEN IN SPORTS

• Enhancement of gender equity in sports as mandated under Republic Act


(RA) 9710, or the Magna Carta of Women.
• Budget Allocation under the Gender and Development (GAD) for the
gender in sports.
• Creation of model sports programs for women.

CHILDREN’S GAMES
• The centerpiece program of PSC in grassroots sports development for kids
aged 12 years old and below.
• Recognized and cited by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and
Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 2017.
• The Children’s Games - Sports For Peace program became an integral and
powerful tool for values formation and strong vehicle for development and
peace.

In 2017…
• Some 10,000 children from 12 cities and provinces in the country
participated in the Children’s Games, including internally displaced kids from
war-torn Marawi City.
• Implemented in key areas such as Davao City, Baguio City, Benguet, Laoag,
Ilocos Norte, Bontoc, Naga, Cebu, Carcar, and Iligan City.

On Children’s Games as centerpiece of PSC’s Grassroots Sports Program
Indigenous Peoples Games (IPG)
• Republic Act (RA) 8371 or Indigenous Peoples Right Act of 1997.
(PSC institutionalized the conduct of IP Games in order to preserve, promote,
and propagate the rich cultural heritage of the IPs as mandated in the IPRA
Law.)
• Partnership with National Commission on Indigenous Peoples
(NCIP), National Commission on Culture and Arts (NCCA),
Department of Education (DepEd) and Department of Interior and
Local Government (DILG), Department of Tourism (DOT).

Lake Sebu’s version of Kadang – Kadang, a
traditional game usually practiced by the IP
communities to cross rivers or high rivers or
even floods. The bamboo poles are usually 5
-6 feet in height.

Hemanak or Achery is one of the traditional


sports and games played during the IP
Games in Lake Sebu, South Cotabato.
Hemanak, since time immemorial, is used
for hunting for food or weapon during tribal
war.

Games in Lake Sebu, South Cotabato. This
is Hemanak or Archery while riding a horse.
It tests the precision and ability of the
archery to hit moving target, particularly
animals.

Sudul or Stulud Lu is a traditional sports and


games in Lake Sebu, South Cotabato where
it tests the agility and energy of each player
and opponent.

Sfut or Defut is a traditional sports and


games played by using bamboo species
(seben) and a grass seed (subong bo). The
player puts the sulong bo inside his or her
mouth and release it to the hole of seben
with air pressure pushing the sulong bo to
hit the target.

Meyon Kuda Law is usually plaed by young


boys and girls for fun and recreation. This
traditional sports and games shows how IPs
perform horse racing.

Log race relay is one of the traditional sports


and games in Ifugao. Log race highlights the
daily struggle of the Igorots of bringing logs
and other farm materials to their community.
