B. Abstract
Tardiness is the most problem and highly consequential for individual In the study, in the
examined the tardiness is the difficult situation for everyone because as we conduct a
survey and ask a some question about tardiness, is sometimes the reason is sleeping late at
night, late to go home and difficult to sleep because of the disorder of insomnia and also
one is using internet especially the students. The result of a survey is in the 10% of the most
difficult is late to go home because of the work and also in school our chosen respondent
were students and workers
We all know student are always have their work in school like school Project,
Reporting, group presentation, assignment and other extracurricular. That’s why they are
tired when they are get home. and also to all have Job a because they are doing the order of
their boss and they need to communicate other people they met in a nice and good way
and most often they did not eat well because instead to eat they wanted to sleep to take a
rest in every minute to have an energy for tomorrow , we also identified the negativity of
internet and society to individual
C. Introduction
When a student arrives late for the class, it’s disruptive for other students and the
teacher. An occasional tardiness is understandable. But if a student is habitually late for
class, it shows a general disrespect for others. Punctuality is an important habit to get into
because it is a requirement of any job that the student may get in the future. Punctuality
also is an indication of dependability and reliability. Strive to have a nurturing and
supportive learning environment even without the restrictive rules that schools have.
However, to provide the best education for students, it is necessary to have some rules
and guidelines.
The term “class tardiness” has been defined as students coming late, not attending
lecture on time, missing out initial time from the first period, and primarily not being
present in the time set. One of the major causes of lateness is going to bed late because it
could result in waking up late and insufficient rest for the lesson on the next day. Besides,
lateness is caused by innate anxiety level of an individual. As stated, there are no positive
incentives to be on time as students assume that there will be no constructive activities
happen for the first five minutes of the class. The lack of functional and effective
punctuality policy, too, causes tardiness. As there are no immediate consequences for
being tardy and nothing will happen until the tenth incident. Many researchers have
indicated that class tardiness is a serious issue.
a. Significance of the Study
It is hoped that this study will add to the body of knowledge on student tardiness in the field
of education, specifically, educational leadership. During the past decade researchers have
examined student dropouts and student absenteeism as viable means of predicting student
success or failure. Caldwell, Huitt, and Graeber (1982) found that little mastery of skills can be
achieved by student when the record reflects high level of absences. Upon investigation of the
subject of student tardiness, it was found that few authors have examined factors impacting on
student tardiness. Revelations of the impact of tardiness, may give parents, teachers, and students
new weapon in the effort to increase academic success. With the findings from this
study, administrators, parents, teachers, and students may be able to develop strategies that are
desired to alleviate or minimize tardiness. This study, therefore, could also reveal information
that will be beneficial in changing students' attitudes towards tardiness.
The study is focused on the effects of tardiness among the College students of City of Malabon
University. It includes the characteristics of College students, tardiness that College students
could do to them if it becomes a habit and the suggestions of College students on how to sleep
and wake up early.
The respondents of the study were be the College students at ages of 19-25 years old of the City
of Malabon University
The study started on July 05, 2017 and ended on September 04, 2017.
b. Review of Related Literature
This chapter contains the gathered researches from the different sources. They were
used as guide to the research study. The related literature starts with the importance of
tardiness and goes on with possible effects that might happen when being tardy. In
the later part of the chapter are the gathered articles and case studies done by various
researchers.
Definition of Tardiness
c. Research Problem/Question
The study will seek answers to the following questions:
1. Does College students experience being late to class?
2. What are the reasons of College students for being tardy?
3. What are the effects of tardiness in the study habit of College students?
4. What are the assistance needed by College students to avoid tardiness?
5. What are the activities of College students which are responsible for their
tardiness?
6. What time do College students sleep when they have class tomorrow?
D. Methodology
This chapter provides the information on what methods, instruments and the subject of the study
the researchers used. Also the different data gathering procedures and the statistical treatment
period.
a.Participants/Data Source
For additional, informations the researchers read their books, journals, magazines and surfed
internet about the effects of tardiness, especially about its effects on college students of first year
of City of Malabon University and some respondents who were interviewed and collect more
information about effects of tardiness before the preparation of one survey instrument.
Self-made survey questionnaire was prepared for use in gathering data. It is divided into 4
(four) parts. The first short note of respondents, secondly in the general instructions that
were given, third is about their personal information and lastly are the questions about the
effects of tardiness on college students at City of Malabon University
d. Data Analysis

Gender f %
Male 106 41
Female 150 59
Total 256 100
It could be deduced from the table that there were 59% female students and 41% males ones.
The data showed that there were more female students than the males. It means that enrollment
of females is bigger than the males. In addition, the bigger number of female students is due to
the drop out of male students for the S.Y. 2017-2018. Moreover, the more students also means
that females are by nature desirous to found their career by obtaining degrees. In addition,
females are more industrious to study than males as females priority is to study than males.
Sometimes males are not interested in their studies, because of lack of interest in the subjects.
According to the respondents of this research, waking up early in the morning is what
they find the hardest part of coming to school which might possibly the reason of their tardy
attitude.

According to Mr. Adrian Scott the number of students who are presenting as chronically late
for school, and we also have many who are missing significant chunks of time each week. The
following advice is adapted from an article published last week and clearly explains how
frequent lateness to school impacts on our children’s well-being and their learning. We all run
late sometimes. For your child, arriving late to school occasionally won’t cause major disruption.
Inevitably, children will feel sick or tired some mornings, or other situations will prevent them
from being on time. But chronic lateness eventually takes its toll on a child’s overall educational
experience.

The data show that there are more respondents who answered that they lack of self-
confidence than other reasons such as lack of interest in the subjects, lack of sleep, and
irresponsible. This means that College students of T. C.M.U lack of self-confidence. This means
that they have a feeling of lack in their abilities, qualities and formality.

According to the students who were interviewed they failed to take the quiz that caused
them to obtain to low grades and their parents are disappointed with them.
According to Mike Allen we are using a quiz as a formal exam. As such I have set the
attempts to allow only one. If a student’s fails to achieve the required grade (75%). I would like
the teacher to allow the students to retake, but the first attempt scores must be kept. I could set
multiple attempts, with say 24 hours before retaking. The trouble with that a students could
retake the quiz without approval, and more important a students who passed, but not well, could

The data show that there are more respondents who answered the use of cellphone everyday
that cause their tardiness than doing too much homework and other causes like do household
chores, and daily exercise such as jogging, walking, running and stretching.
This means that the students of City of Malabon University are using cellphone everyday
for being tardy which shows that they become addicted to the social media like Facebook,

As a whole it can be conclude that Tardiness is the most problem or issues that can be
solved if the students, Parents and also a teachers work together to overcome the tardiness issues
in the future.
Discussion of the tardiness that we had conducted the purpose of our study was to find out the
factors that influence students being tardy to their class. As well, this study helps the
management of the university, especially in overcome the problem of being tardy among
students particularly in the class. And the whole university of the school
In addition, we also take the responsibility of in given awareness to each students on the
future impact the attitude of those who prefer not to attending in the class and take it easily and
mostly the effect of this problem when it continuously happen to individual especially to the
students
F. Conclusions
The most common reason on why the students of the City of Malabon University are tardy is
ana experience being late to their class it because using cellphone everyday like Facebook,
etc
Recommendations
To the next researcher’s, give advice to our co-students for being tardiness. Which students
come to class late, it can disrupt the flow of discussion. Because there are a respondents of
possible reasons students arrive to class late. Advice to them for best solution to our co-students
for being tardiness on class or school.
