STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

Introduction:
My name is Suman Madireddy, I plan to study Master of Business Administration from
Southern Cross University. I was born on 7th March 1992 in Hyderabad. My family
consists of me, my father and mother. My father’s name is Madireddy Balreddy and he
is a technician in Nuclear Fuel Complex, Hyderabad and my mother’s name is Pramoda
Madireddy. I would like to learn about management because right from childhood I had
this intuition to conduct and overlook various programs and see to it that everything is
done as expected. A management course from a reputed institution will allow me to
learn about the various facets involved in the management of an organization. Most
organizations want leaders who understand more abstract and innovative ideas like
change, thought and transformational management. An MBA program comes with
holistic attitudes and integrated perspectives of the business world. Deep understanding
and receptiveness to change brings about growth. I would like to grow in my career and
MBA from Southern Cross University will help me realize that goal.

Academics:
I finished my schooling from Sai Siddhartha High School Dammaiguda which is affiliated
to the Board of Secondary Education, Andhra Pradesh. I’ve scored an aggregate of
63.6%. I did my Intermediate from Narayana Junior College, one of the prestigious
colleges in our city affiliated to Board of Intermediate Education with Math, Physics, and
Chemistry as the main optional. After my Intermediate, I proceeded to do Bachelor
Computer Application in Vivekananda Degree college ECIL affiliated to Osmania
University. After completing my bachelors in the year 2013, I started looking for jobs to
get real time experience in managing manpower. I expected that by doing a job I can
gain practical knowledge as during my bachelors I could only gain theoretical
knowledge and improve my skills. That is when I got the opportunity to work with Sigwa
Info Solutions, basically an IT company. Having done my bachelors in computers it was
easy for me to do the daily tasks and also it gave me an opportunity to learn how things
are managed in an organization.

Work Experience:
I started working in Sigwa Info Solutions from 16th September 2013 as an Admin
Assistant. As an Admin Assistant I was responsible to perform various administrative
tasks like:

 Maintaining computer and manual filing systems.

 Provide information to internal colleagues or external enquirers.
 Handling sensitive information in a confidential manner.
 Taking accurate minutes of meetings.
 Coordinating office procedures.
 Relying to email, telephone or face to face enquiries.
 Develop and update administrative systems to make them more efficient.

After working in this role for 15 months I was promoted to the role of Admin Support
Executive. By working as an Admin Executive, I learned the intricacies of the business. I
also learned how to manage budgets, providing customer service, making purchasing
decisions, planning company events, providing technical training to fellow employees,
managing communications with vendors, clients, and employees, creating and
managing social media, assisting in hiring and recruitment handling accounting, payroll,
and HR functions. After working as an Admin Executive for more than 3 years I realised
that I should aim for higher positions in the industry and for that I require a MBA degree
to validate my profile and also learn advanced management techniques which will help
me work efficiently and do justice to my role in the organization. Also getting an MBA
from a foreign country would give me a different perpective of the world which will be
useful for performing my job in a better manner.

Why Master’s degree:

The world is becoming competitive day by day, the more education I possess the better
opportunities I will get. It is difficult to withstand in the business world without an MBA
degree in today’s competition. An MBA is an internationally recognized passport to a
successful management career. It helps me consider and apply business theory to the
world of work, deepening and widening my understanding of the organization and the
environment in which it operates. An MBA education gives me new skills and
knowledge to enhance my current career. After working in the office for more than three
years, and gaining adequate experience, I realized that I am in fact stuck in a comfort
zone. By doing my Master of Business Administration course, I will soon be forced out
of my comfort zone and learn how to deal with the latest issues. This program will give
me the opportunity to constantly challenge and push myself in order to continuously
improve. During the MBA course, I will learn vital skills to become a manager in any
organization like Communication skills, Project management skills, Time management
skills, listening skills, and other interpersonal skills which make an MBA graduate a
valuable resource to any company. Boosting my career options is probably my top
priority when I sign up for an MBA program. The program is almost as grueling as it is
prestigious, and I will need to invest significant time and money if I want to complete it,
so seeing the career light at the end of the tunnel is genuinely motivating. Obtaining a
master’s degree can be an arduous but very rewarding goal, one that many
professionals like me should strive for. With a master’s degree, my career path will
take a different trajectory than without one; a trajectory that aims me towards being
as successful and respected as possible in my career path. By having a master’s
degree at my disposal, so many opportunities will open up to me in my life, both
professional and personal.
Why not India for Master’s:
I haven’t chosen my home country for doing my higher studies because though they are
institutes offering this course in India the standard of education is very low and because
of huge population in the country it becomes difficult to secure a seat in the top
colleges. The faculty in other colleges where I can secure admission does not have the
requisite facilities and the faculty is not very experienced to mold me into a good
professional. In India, there is no emphasis on experimental learning and rote learning
is given importance where we have to memorize what is being taught and dump it
during exams. Indian education system teaches old technologies. Indian education
system is very bad in adopting latest technologies in curriculum. This makes the child
difficult to thrive in today’s world scenario. There are some institutes like the Indian
Institute of Management which are globally recognized but it’s difficult to get admission
into them as there is an entrance exam called CAT which is very difficult to crack and
also due the limited number of seats available only few students get admitted. Apart
from that there are private Institutes like XLRI, Narsee Monjee Institute of management
studies which cater to the elite students. The not-so-good MBA programs in India, which
are relatively easier to get into, will not make much of a difference to my resume, seeing
as an MBA qualification has become too common now. I need something that will help
me stand out, which passing from the top-ranked institutes in Australia will do for you.
Whereas, if I pursue higher studies in a foreign country I will become more responsible
for my parents and society. Combined with the emphasis placed on research and the
excellent research tools given to each and every student, MBA programs abroad have a
well-rounded touch to them as compared to the Indian programs. An international
recognized master’s course is aimed at building a strong business-based knowledge
with ample practical training among graduates. These courses are vast in terms of both
curriculum and future prospects. Apart from this, better job prospects are another major
reason behind this trend of studying abroad. Most global companies prefer candidates
who can work well in their own country as well as abroad. And thus, getting education
from a foreign university is an added advantage. Studying abroad improves one’s
personality, communication skills, social contacts, and at the same time one can
experience a different quality of life. Studying abroad provides a great opportunity to
develop and strengthen my interpersonal and intercultural skills and will set me apart in
the job market. Intercultural skills have become increasingly important in today's
workplace, and will help me interact with people from different cultural backgrounds.
Interpersonal skills are personal qualities that relate to how I interact with people and
solve problems. Good interpersonal skills improve my productivity and are highly valued
by employers.

Why not Other Countries?

Before selecting Australia, I looked at opportunities available in other countries as well

like the USA, UK and Canada. I even looked at the prospect of applying for
Southerneast Missouri State University but the course structure is different from what I
anticipated. More preference is given to decision making rather management
techniques which I prefer. Though the rankings of the universities and the standard of
education is good in these countries, the process involved in getting admission and later
visa is very cumbersome in the USA and one needs to have high scores in GMAT to
apply for top universities which is not likely in my case. In UK the cost of living is very
high when compared to Australia but lack the basic amenities and counselling required
for international students like me who take time to adjust to the new surroundings. I
considered Suffolk University but it did not meet my expectation and the standard that I
desired as the whole program is crammed into one year. In Canada the climatic
conditions are very harsh and the transport system is not well established and incurs
substantive amount of money. Apart from that I looked at the possibility of studying in
Germany but the people in Germany are comfortable in their own language and it
becomes difficult to get along with them. And also, though education is free in Germany
the living costs will compensate for that. Switzerland was another country I have done
some research but universities do not have good rankings and the education system is
almost similar to that in India. In Australia most of the people speak in English and also
the requirement for getting admission is English Language Test which takes less time to
prepare. These are some factors which persuaded me to select Australia as my study
destination.

Why only Australia:

An Australian Masters in Business Administration (MBA) is a top prestigious degree. An
MBA is so sought after for many different reasons. An MBA includes experience
combined with in depth knowledge and provides a student an extra boost for their future
career. An Australian MBA is a toolset for expert knowledge which will help me to
manage, innovate, and operate diverse types of small to large businesses or
institutions. Australia is known for the standard of living it offers. An English-speaking
nation, it has a population of about 12.5 million. People from over 190 countries reside
there. People of diverse cultures stay in Australia, which makes it very attractive for the
students like me who wish to study there. This supported by high-quality education is
quite attractive those looking at Australia as an education destination. The cost of
pursuing education and living in Australia is 40 to 60 percent less than that of USA/UK,
varying with the preferred location. Universities in Australia offer a wide variety of
courses to meet each and every student's requirements. The curriculum and
infrastructure are latest while the faculty is up-to-date and result-oriented. An MBA from
Australia will be recognized all over the world and companies are very much keen to
hire students like me who have studied in Australia as they maintain high standards in
providing education. The government of Australia has put legislation in place to ensure
that international students like me studying under a visa do so under internationally
consistent standards. These standards apply to providers of education and training for
international students like me, which includes both higher education and vocational
education and training (VET). Additionally, Australia has adopted quality assurance
(QA) regimes that are consistent with those worldwide; this ensures that students in
Australia are getting the best education available. Another important measure in the
Australian tertiary system is The TEQSA Standards, which must be met by all Australian
higher education providers and include a requirement that students like me must be
engaged in enhancing their learning experience. This requirement is meant to
encourage students like me to provide meaningful feedback and to have a certain
degree of representation in decision-making processes. The people of Australia are
very friendly and when an Australian ask “how are you?”, it’s not simply a pleasantry,
but a genuine question. What’s more, they’re prepared to have a long conversation with
you on the subject. Australia has an abundance of fresh food all year round. Eating out
is a popular pastime in Australia and we have a huge choice of fabulous restaurants,
cafes, pubs and bars in our cities and towns. In addition to specialty restaurants in a
variety of cuisines such as Chinese, Thai, Japanese, French, African, Greek, Turkish,
Italian, Mexican, Indian many Australian chefs are renowned worldwide for ‘fusion’
cuisine which brings together European cooking styles with Asian flavors. Australia is an
extremely large country, making transportation very important. The public transportation
system is very efficient, and international students like me should always be able to get
to where they need to go, whether by bus, train, bike, or plane. The climate in Australia
varies widely depending on the area, as Australia consists of a variety of environments:
from beaches to deserts to grazing lands to coral reefs and there is always sunshine.
The climatic conditions in Australia are not very extreme thus making it a pleasant
destination for international students. Overall Australia has all the attributes needed for
a comfortable stay which made me choose it as my study destination.

Why Southern Cross University over other universities:

Southern Cross University has campuses in Goldcoast, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney. I
have chosen the Melbourne campus. The university is located in the Central Business
District and has got many amenities like free transport and many other facilities which
will make my stay comfortable. When compared with the location of universities like
Central Queensland University and University of Sunshine Coast which are located in
Queensland the location of Southern Cross University is preferable. The Student
concentration at Southern Cross University is lower when compared with Griffith
University and because of this there would be better teacher-student interaction. The
student fee is also lower at Southern Cross University than Central Queensland
University and the University of Southern Queensland. The learning outcomes are
better at Southern Cross University than Griffith University and Central Queensland
University. The research Excellence is better at Southern Cross University than at
Central Queensland University, Griffith University, and Victoria University. Hence, I’ve
chosen to study at Southern Cross University over all other universities. Southern Cross
University provides excellent assistance to international students like me on my arrival
when compared to other universities.

Why only Southern Cross University:

Southern Cross University international was established in 1995, after the University
council acknowledged the important role 'internationalization' would play in the
University's future development. Its purpose was to recruit and support international
students, promote overseas study opportunities for Australian students, and establish
offshore programs. There are many prestigious achievements like receiving outstanding
awards, getting rated in top 100 universities in the world under 50 years old, ranked No
1 in the support for international student support and committed to a culturally diverse
society which made me select this university to study. Southern Cross University
Melbourne also offers highly qualified lecturers with a work integrated learning focus.
Amenities such as shared students located next to a cosmopolitan food court, a
comfortable student hub right next to the student’s services are some of the facilities
that I am impressed with. An active Student Representative Council is also at hand to
provide student representation in advocating positive changes within the campus. This
is a branch which is located in the heart of the central business district. The campus is
conveniently located at Little Collins Street and easily accessible via Melbourne's free
tram system. The location is perfect; just a short walk away from some of Australia's
notable fashion boutiques while in the immediate vicinity are weekday cares catering to
a diverse market. I think the strategic location; scenic place makes students like me to
choose this university. There are highly qualified lecturers with work-integrated focus.
There is an academic skill advisor to guide us through this journey. I will be receiving
tuition from some great business minds. Some will be part of your faculty and others
specially invited to share their wealth of experience and knowledge with you. My tutors
and guest speakers are likely to be key personalities in their field and will bring with
them a network of contacts for me to utilize. If I use this opportunity it’s likely that I will
gain some sort of step up within your chosen field. Fellow students will greatly extend
your professional network; some of the students on my MBA course will be successful
later in life, and the field of work that their success lies in will vary from person to
person. Forming professional and personal bonds with these people may prove
invaluable in your future. Hence, I’ve chosen to study at Southern Cross University to
better my career going further.

would like to work for companies like JP Morgan, Ernst & Young, Citibank and General
Electric. Then I would like to move to the position of Lead Business Analyst where I will

according to payscale.com. I see a great future for myself and the MBA course will help
me achieve this goal.

drawing an annual income of Rs 11.53 lakhs. Apart from that I have a fixed deposit of
Rs 21 lakhs in Andhra Bank. My family also have properties worth 7.8crores. We get an
annual income of Rs 4 lakhs from these properties. All these can be used to fund my
education.

Immigration History:

I have done my education in India and have not visited any other country so far.

VISA rules and regulations: (Sub Class 500):

In order to apply for a student VISA for Australia, I’m aware that I must apply under the
student VISA sub-category 500. The rules are meant to be followed by me during my
stay in Australia. The rules and regulations are as follows,

 While the registered course of study is in session, I cannot work more than 40
hours per fortnight or 20 hours per week;
 I must maintain enrolment in a registered full-time course of study;
 While I am in Australia, I must maintain their Overseas Student Health Cover;
 I must continue to satisfy the requirements to be granted a visa. This means that
I must remain subject to a course of study, have adequate financial resources,
and obey my student visa conditions;
 If I am outside of Australia when the visa was granted, I must notify my education
provider of my residential address within 7 days of moving to Australia;

Coming back to India:

Doing Master of Business Administration from abroad is a big financial decision.
Whoever makes the decision should be extra-careful in what he does and make sure
that not a penny is wasted. I will finish my studies in Australia which is my dream
destination, and return back to India as I am very attached to my home country and I
cannot miss the festivities, friends and my relatives for a very long time. Moreover, I
have lot of properties in India and as the only child I will be the heir to them. It will also
be my responsibility to take care of them and it will not be possible from a foreign
country. I wish to get married to an Indian girl and then settle in India with an intention to
socialize with my friends and relatives whom I will be missing during my stay in
Australia. I will also get the opportunity to participate and enjoy the various festivities in
India after the completion of the course. I have always seen my parents work hard for
me and in their old age want to make them comfortable. As I own a house in my home
country I can always stay in that house and work but in Australia I have to rent a house
and it becomes an extra burden for me. There is a huge demand in my country for
students who have pursued MBA in a foreign country like Australia and the chances of
getting a good job with high renumeration is also high. So, I wish to return back to my
home country after my studies as it more suitable and viable for me.

Conclusion:
With full faith and confidence, I hereby assure the information given by me are true to
the best of my knowledge. I vow in front of the admission committee and management
that if they select me, I will follow the rules and regulations of the institution, this ties
together several ideas that I have developed over the course of the essay. Most
important is the way that I articulate my plans to combine my Master of Business
Administration education with the insight I possess into the international market. I will
not give any problems or create any nonsense during my stay there. Management can
stay rest assured that they are having a good and nice student to deal with. Especially
in a professional field like this, there is an unspoken question of why we are continuing
education without working. There is an opportunity cost involved in terms of both time
and earnings not to mention the expenditure involved. As such I have a powerful
motivation to make these sacrifices. I would certainly find my space and put these
motivations at the forefront mentioned herein.

Thanks and Regards

Suman Madireddy.
