STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

INTRODUCTION

I am Bhavneet Singh Sethi from India and I intend to study in master degree course in Australia. The course, which I wish to study, is
Master of business administration from southern cross university (Perth Campus) my classes will start on 1 st July 2019 and it is a two
years course. My parents reside permanently in India. I have illustrated some key reasons for opting master of business administration
course and Southern Cross University as my study destination. Moreover, I have also mentioned about my academic profile and the
career plans after the completion of my course.

ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS

As per my academic profile, I completed 10th grade and 12 th grade both from A S Modern senior secondary school Khanna and in
years 2009 and 2011 respectively both affiliated Central board of secondary education. I scored 62.16%in my 10th grade and in 12th I
scored 53%. I have completed Bachelor of business Administration from Punjab Technical University in year 2015With 55%. I have
worked as a store manager and I also worked as a In charge of entire store. I have also given IELTS exam on 24 th may 2018 in which I
scored 7 bands overall.

AUSTRALIA” nothing is better than that:

I have finalized to study in Australia because the Australia fits in all my criteria’s. The tuition fee is comparable to studying a similar
degree in Canada. Tuition fee & living cost as well. I explored Ontario Institute of Technology and Thompson River University for
collecting these facts. While comparing education system of Canada to that of Australia, I found that the Australian degrees are
recognized globally by the employers therefore I will have an option to get the career opportunities across the globe. Other support
facilities such as OSHC and ESOS act etc. have lured me towards this study destination which holds world’s top 2% universities.

During my research also, I came across this fact that Canada is known for Accounting, Hospitality whereas Australia is known for
Technology, Business, and Healthcare, Science, Education, and Accounting studies. Since I was going to study Business Management,
it was natural for me to choose Australia over Canada.

Australia Compared to USA, New Zealand and Canada:

USA: USA also provides good education options for international students. But the tuition fee and living expenses are much higher
when compared to Australia. The climatic conditions in US are extreme which may lead to discomfort. The temperature may drop
down to below 0 degrees. Entry requirements are also strict for US.

There is also a less bright side which needs to be revealed. The reasons why international students are afraid to study in USA is as
below:

● Big universities are only located in a small town

● No exposure to the cities as long travelling becomes a hurdle
● Local students are not cooperative with the international students
● Over burden of projects
● Weather is also not suitable for most of the international students
CANADA: In comparison with CANADA, Entry requirements are high and one needs to score around or above 70% to seek
admission in a good institution. Also, I found that CANADA has limited colleges with limited course options due to which ii will not
be able to choose my course according to my interest. Also, winters are extremely cold in CANADA which I will not be able to
tolerate.

● NEW ZEALAND: New Zealand is a small country in terms of population and area which leads to limited options of
universities to choose from. Due to this, students may not choose their courses and universities according to their choice.
Moreover, New Zealand universities and colleges do not have better rankings than universities of Australia

Higher education option in India:

● Quality education is very decisive for me & I do not want to make any compromise on this. When I searched about the
International Education, I came to know that it is very much different from the Indian education System. All the students who
apply to study abroad have the option of studying in India at a fraction of the cost. Study schedule of International Studies
also provide students with the option of working in a progressive professional environment and this “foreign” experience in
urn enhance the employability levels of the student.
 ● Moreover, In India one needs to clear the exam for doing the Master of Business Administration from a reputed institute. The
admission intake is once in a year, so if a student fails to clear the entrance exam or get into a college, then the whole year
gets wasted. Furthermore, the numbers of seats are less and the applicants are more.

WHY SOUTHERN CROSS UNIVERSITY

I did my research on numerous universities in Australia and found that Sothern Cross University is offering master of business
administration. It has extraordinary infrastructure and a large group of qualifies and experienced staff. Southern Cross University has
various campuses Hence, this university is globally recognized so as its degrees.

● Southern Cross University is ranked 33 in Australia and it is ranked 906 in world. It is ranked #1 in Australia for international
students.
● It is a public university and there are 17191 students in Southern Cross University from which 1832 students are international
students and 19.78% of international students are from India.
● Southern Cross University leads six schools and two colleges along research centers. The university provides placements to
the students, which is very beneficial for the students to gain work experience and have a successful career.
● Southern Cross University has excellent staff members such as Professor William MacNeil He is the head of the school of
law and justice and he is also editor of the book series. They won the 2013-penny prize for school in law, literature, and
humanities.

COMPARISON OF SOUTHERN CROSS UNIVERSITY WITHIN AUSTRALIA

Before I nail down Southern Cross University, I looked into other universities such as Federation University, Bond University,
Charles Darwin University and the University of Sunshine Coast. However, I chose Southern Cross University for my further studies
due to the following reasons:

● Federation University, Bond University and University of Sunshine Coast holds the world rank 4095, 1071, 1150, and 1257
respectively. Whereas, Southern Cross University holds 906th rank worldwide as per QS world ranking system 2018.
● Southern Cross University collaborates with international institution in the delivery of courses in China, Tashkent, Malaysia,
New Zealand and Singapore, neither bond university and Federation University collaborates with international institution.
● University of Sunshine Coast has less industrial tie ups and they do not have strong link with business but Southern Cross
University has developed industry partnership and strong links with business and the professions to provide a practical
emphasis as well as rigorous appreciation of theory.
WHY OPT. MASTER OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION (MBA):
● Business Management Professionals are the people who get things done. They oversee the performance of teams and
operations to maximize a company’s potential for profit. To achieve this they need to be skilled in all areas of business
including sales and marketing, accounting and finance, human resources, communication and negotiation, logistics, legal
issues and leadership. Every organization in every industry requires management professionals. This makes Business
administration and general management one of the most versatile and rewarding careers available to me.
● Master of Business Administration emphasizes importance on strategic planning for global operations, including specialized
skills and provides profound understanding of the organizational capabilities required for international functions such as
international marketing, finance and human resource management. This course will provide me with the perfect balance of
both, Theoretical knowledge and practical experience. To get ahead in today’s business world, students have to be competent
in a wide range of business skillfulness. Moreover, I shall acquire a broad range of professionalism, in order to manage and
supervise staffing in business. I will also get international exposure which is the need of the day. It will add on to my
personality and enhance my confidence in all spheres.

RELEVANCE TO PREVIOUS STUDY

I chose this course because it is relevant to my previous study .I have persuaded Bachelor of business administration in which I
studied the theocretical knowledge about business world. There were some subjects like Principle of management ,organization
behavior , business communication , financial accounting , marketing management and many more which I have studied in Bachelor
of business administration and in master degree I will be learning same units with more practical skills and strong theoretical basis

COURSE DETAILS

In this course, I will learn 12 core units. These are namely management communication, organizational behaviour, economics and
quantitative analysis, accounting for managers, marketing, finance for managers, corporate governance for managers, the positive
leader, project management principles, global business, strategy and case analysis, managing information systems.

Heading Back to India:

I have planned to come back and work in India only because India is emerging at a great pace in my chosen field. I have searched a lot
to confirm my intuitions of having a successful career in this field and below I have briefed it.

FUTURE GOALS:
Talking about my long term plans, after completing my degree program Internationally, I would become a member of the strong
Alumni Network and by keeping contact with the alumni network and my classmates I would be able to seek their advice and help in
my career growth too.

The chosen course is very beneficial to me. Equipped with the specialist knowledge in my chosen field, I expect to be able to progress
smoothly into a career in the international business world. I believe that getting an international degree, I will be having enough
confidence regarding my knowledge and skills. Returning back home, carrying lot of practical knowledge and immense exposure, I
shall be capable enough to launch myself in this competitive world & make my parents proud by grabbing a reputed job in
Multinational Companies related to my field like: Amazon, Apple, Bain & Company, BCG, Citigroup

● Business analyst or strategist, Business development analyst, associate, or manager, Financial analyst, Management
consultant, Marketing associate, analyst, or manager, Project, product, or program manager, Operations analyst, associate, or
manager

SALARY RANGE:

A survey conducted that of average salaries from MBA holders with degrees in a variety of categories. According to the survey, just
persons with less than one year of work experience with an average salary of $25,396. Those with one to four years of experience had
an average salary of $35,541. Additionally, with 10 to 19 years of experience made an average salary of $50,800-$60000 annually.
The survey results clearly reveal that work experience contributes significantly to an MBA’s salary.

I am confident that a business degree from the esteemed University will help me to achieve my goals.

Australian Student Visa Conditions:

I am well aware that my expenses of living in Australia are $20290 per year. I have to follow Student Visa Conditions mentioned
below:

1. Must not perform any work (until course has commenced and permission to work has been granted).
2. Once permission to work has been granted I can work up-to 20 hours per week, while my course is in session.
3. Must satisfy attendance and course requirements.
4. Must NOT change education provider during first 12 months of the course.
5. Must maintain adequate health insurance in Australia.
6. Must notify education provider if there is a change of address within 7 days.
