Individual Assignment – Paper

You are required to develop any topic from the course and write a paper of 1500-2000 words. If
you wish to combine topics, for the sake of the paper, you may, but one topic is sufficient.

The title of the paper is up to you but it should be:

 Interesting, worthy of exploration and detailed analysis;
 Capable of bringing the chosen topic to life; &
 Of practical use in the field of engineering management.

You are encouraged to be creative, to think critically and to provide your opinion on the topic
areas chosen, ideally supported by theory and practical applications/examples from your field.
Examples of appropriate titles for your paper could be:

“The dynamics of teamwork in engineering design projects”

“Corporate social responsibility in a power generation plant: Case of Powergen Wrightson Road POS”
“The role of collaboration among engineering disciplines in the provision of maintenance services to
process plants and utility providers”
“The use of the balanced scorecard in strategy deployment for a cable manufacturer”

A minimum of 6 peer-reviewed journal articles relevant to your topic of choice should be cited
in your paper and your methodology may include desk research, interviews, survey,
observations, experiments, etc. The paper should be typed using Times New Roman or Cambria
font, font size 12, 1.5 space between lines, space after paragraphs. You should make full use of
charts, and tables to present information. The format of the paper is flexible but a basic format
would include:

1. Abstract 2. Introduction 3. Literature Review 4. Methodology

5. Findings and Discussion 6. Conclusions and Recommendations

The paper is due by 11:59pm on Sunday 15th November, 2015. You are required to submit the
paper through Turnitin. Should you miss the deadline, there will be a 10% penalty for each
day/part of day the project is late. The late report should be submitted in hardcopy and also by
e-mail to cilla.benjamin@sta.uwi.edu. Should you not get an acknowledgement that your e-mail
