4.1 Introductory Activity Show students different examples of signs and symbols.These can include anti-smoking,blood donation, etc.What are
10 minutes symbols? What are signs?What is the mood of this image?What message is this image/symbol trying to convey?
4.2 Activity Have students work in groups. Provide them different state and town welcome signs and slogans.Ask them to think
10 minutes about how welcoming these signs and phrases are.Then have them look warning ans trespassing signs.
4.3 Analysis
What do these signs tell us about the town? How do they welcome or scare people away?

Signs and symbols are very common in real life, and it is important to understand the meaning behind them.
