Case Study

This document proposes the design and development of a solar powered electric bug zapper. It notes that insects are currently eating and damaging plants, affecting their growth and food production. The proposed device aims to eliminate insects using electricity generated from solar power, allowing plants to grow healthily and produce more fruits and vegetables. Potential driving forces include existing zapping technologies and farmer support, while limitations could include budget and component availability. The proposed study would focus on designing a solar powered bug zapper that attracts and electrocutes flying insects using a light source and high-voltage electrical grid.

Broad Topic: Solar Powered Electric Bug Zapper

Specific Topics: Design and Development of Solar Powered Electric Bug Zapper

I. Current Scenario:
1. Plants are being eaten by insects
2. The growth of plants is being affected by the insects
3. Shortage of production of fruits and vegetables

II. Desired Condition:

1. To let the plants live by getting rid of the insects
2. To let the plants grow normally by using electricity to prevent insects from
getting near the plants.
3. To produce more fruits and vegetables by letting the plants grow in a healthy
environment

III. Driving Forces:

1. There is an existing technology for killing insects
2. The farmers who encourages us to make this possible
3. There are several guides in making these kinds of technology

IV. Restraining Forces:

1. There is limited budget
2. The scale of electricity that will be used
3. The rareness of the parts and components

Proposed Title of the Study: Design and Development of Solar Powered

Electric Bug Zapper
Rationale/Background of the Study:
Some insects with chewing mouthparts bore or tunnel into plant tissue. Stem-boring
insects can kill or deform individual stems or whole plants. Leaf mining insects feed
between the upper and lower surfaces of leaves, creating distinctive tunnel patterns
visible as translucent lines or blotches on leaves. Insects can also cause injury to plants
when they lay eggs (oviposit) into plant tissue. This study focuses on the study of the
design and development of a solar powered electric bug zapper. It is a device that
attracts and kills flying insects that are attracted by the light. A light source attracts
insects to an electrical grid, where they are electrocuted by touching two wires with a
high voltage between them. The light source is fitted inside, often a fluorescent lamp
designed to emit both visible and ultraviolet light, which is visible to insects and attracts
them.
