12) Find the probability of selecting 9 or more girls.

13) Find the probability of selecting 12 or more girls.

14) Find the probability of selecting 2 or more girls.

Provide an appropriate response. ( 4 points each)

15) In a game, you have a 1/36 probability of winning $85 and a 35/36 probability of losing $4. What is your
expected value?

16) A contractor is considering a sale that promises a profit of $26,000 with a probability of 0.7 or a loss (due to
bad weather, strikes, and such) of $8000 with a probability of 0.3. What is the expected profit?

Provide an appropriate response. Round to the nearest hundredth. ( 5 points each)

17) The random variable x is the number of houses sold by a realtor in a single month at the Sendsom's Real
Estate Office. Its probability distribution is as follows. Find the Mean, Variance, and Standard Deviation of
the given probability distribution (5 points each)

Houses Sold (x) Probability P(x)

0 0.24
1 0.01
2 0.12
3 0.16
4 0.01
5 0.14
6 0.11
7 0.21

Determine whether the given procedure results in a binomial distribution. If not, state the reason why. ( 4 points
each)
18) Rolling a single die 26 times, keeping track of the numbers that are rolled.

19) Rolling a single die 53 times, keeping track of the "fives" rolled.

20) Choosing 5 people (without replacement) from a group of 40 people, of which 15 are women, keeping track
of the number of men chosen.

Assume that a procedure yields a binomial distribution with a trial repeated n times. Use the binomial probability
formula to find the probability of x successes given the probability p of success on a single trial. Round to three
decimal places. Show all steps to get maximum credit ( 7 points)
21) n = 5, x = 2, p = 0.70

22) Assume that male and female births are equally likely and that the birth of any child does not affect the
probability of the gender of any other children. Find the probability of exactly nine girls in ten births.
