●KNX is a bus system
●KNX is a world standard
●KNX brings building functions together
●KNX offers flexibility, safety, comfort and cost efficiency
Simply intelligent: an

all control signals within
a building
● Definition of testing and quality standards via working and expert groups (KNX specification)
● Technical hotline for manufacturers developing KNX compatible devices
● Issue of KNX trademark on the basis of specifications through KNC Certification

KNX
Changing the use of rooms and floors
Whether an office complex,
a private home or a hotel
● KNX structures can be adapted
KNX configurations can
and expanded in response to be changed easily and
change the use or modified inexpensively
partition positions without
requiring new installation cables
● This applies to retrofitting
individual functions just as much
as creating new central functions
● Quick, easy and inexpensive
change of functions with ETS
● Energy Efficiency
● Closely connected with the KNX building
system engineering is the comfort of
controlling:
● Shutters and blinds
● Lighting system
● Heating system and air- conditioning
● Audio system and many more
● Furthermore this comfort brings energy
savings of up to 50% as new researches
documented
(Source: www.iia.hs-bremen.de/KNXEnergieeffizienz)
● Energy Total savings compared total energy consumed for lighting, heating &
cooling
● Electricity savings compared energy consumption for lighting
● Heating & Cooling savings compared energy consumption for heating &/or cooling

On the bus
● Group addresses are generated in order to determine the connections between the communications
objects = the name of a telegram
● The group address allocates the functions to be executed
● It is divided into a main group, a middle group and a subgroup. These are used for the unambiguous
allocation of the function.
Example:
Main group / Middle group / Sub group
Level / Function type / Function
1st floor / Lighting / Lamp group 1 On/Off
