INTRODUCTION
Electricity is something we interact with every day, from receiving a simple discharge from a
person to lighting a light bulb or connecting an electrical device. But many times we wonder
what electric energy is and how it is used to provide us with not only electricity, but also an
easier and more comfortable life.

Well, we will talk about how electricity is generated and even how a damper can operate from
a light bulb to an engine. It is also important to know not only how electric energy works but
also the damage it can cause us and the measures that we must take into account.
But in the most relevant issue is to know how energy passes from a power plant to our homes.
USES OF ELECTRICAL ENERGY IN THE CIVIL ENGINEERING
I. THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK:
Electric power intervenes in virtually every aspect of our daily lives. Something as basic today
as lighting would not be possible if we did not know the electrical energy. The alarm clock, the
refrigerator, the microwave, the computer, are so useful in our daily life that it is difficult for
us to imagine day to day without them. And what makes these devices work? It is not about
anything other than electrical energy.
Example: By starting up any appliance in our home or starting our car or, simply by turning on
a light, we are making use of electric power.
But electric power has not always existed. In the first half of the nineteenth century, cities
undertook their lighting by gas and it was not until 1879 when Thomas Edison invented
incandescent electric light and a year later he designed the first distribution facility for this type
of energy in New York.
In Spain, the first installation was carried out in 1881 at the Palacio de Comillas in Santander,
with a lighting system using 30 incandescent lamps.
At the beginning of the 20th century, the most commonly used lamps were 15 and 25 watts of
power (maximum), and the voltage ranged between 125 and 220 volts (maximum value).
As a curiosity we will indicate that in 1906 Madrid had 140 electricity companies and in 1907
it had 109 electricity installation workshops.
Already today, and for economic reasons, we receive the voltage between 220 and 380 volts.
What is clear is that in a relatively short period of time, electric power has gone from being
non-existent to being essential in all facets of our life.
In this first didactic unit we will include all those basic notions to introduce you in the
electrician's trade. We will make a general description of the trade while insisting on the aspects
that need to be taken into account to successfully practice this profession.
On the other hand, we will learn the relationship between electrical installations and highlight
the importance of planning and coordination of work with that of the other professionals that
are part of the construction process.
Finally, this unit will comment on the importance of observing the regulations that affect work
in the construction sector.
II. SITUATIONS RELATED TO THE CIVIL ENGINEERING.
The career is oriented to the training of a professional capable of applying in a methodical and
integrated way the knowledge of science (mathematics, natural, economic and engineering),
and technology, design, exploitation, supervision, construction, control, administration and
optimization of electrical, electronic and telecommunications energy systems, which use
materials, energy, information, human, financial and other resources, in order to responsibly
and ethically improve the quality of life of society, respecting economic, legal, social
requirements , ethical and environmental.

The occupational field of the Civil Electrical Engineer covers different areas, among which the
following stand out: Free exercise of the profession through consulting, product design,
projects, studies, application software development, etc.

Performance in electricity generation, transmission and distribution companies, electronic and

telecommunications companies and, in general, in industrial, mining and service companies.
Research and development activities in research centers and institutions of higher education.

IMPORTANCE
In civil engineering in particular, electric power has a very important participation, since, thanks
to technological advances, it has a number of tools, which facilitate and optimize engineering
work.
There are teams that depend on the electric current in civil engineering such as: mixers, etc.
CONCLUSIONS
IN CONCLUSION, CIVIL ENGINEERING HAS AN IMPORTANT PARTICIPATION IN
THE GENERATION OF ELECTRICAL ENERGY.
