Start By:

A. Remove the first reduction gear. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly Manual, "Gear Group -
Disassemble".

NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

NOTICE
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during
performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair
of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers
before opening any compartment or disassembling any component
containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop


Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain
fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

1. Remove plug (6) and install Tooling (A) in place of the plug.

2. Remove bolts (8) which fasten the pinion and carrier group (5) in the cartridge assembly. Remove the
remaining bolts (7) which fasten the cartridge assembly to the winch case.

3. Pull on the eyebolt in order to remove the pinion and carrier group from the cartridge assembly. Place
the pinion and carrier group on a suitable work surface.

4. Use Tooling (D) to remove pinion (2) with bearings (1) and (3) from bearing carrier (5) .

5. Use Tooling (B) and Tooling (C) with a press to remove bearings (1) and (3) from pinion (2) .
6. Remove O-ring seal (4) from bearing carrier (5). Inspect the O-ring seal for wear and for damage.
Replace the O-ring seal, if necessary.
