Introduction
Mathematics is one of the most important subjects in school
even in our life. We can not measure a single moment without
mathemetics. No matter to which field or profession you belong to, its
use is all over. That is why it is required to have a good understand of
the maths. It is sometimes challenging for students to value the worth
of Mathematics. They often find the subject dull and tough to
understand.
The study of math plays a very important role in our daily life.
There are many reasons why mathematics is important to each and
every one of us .Firstly; all subjects are linked with mathematics like
physics, chemistry and even biology. Secondly, mathematics is used in
architecture and designing. How can to achieve the author is
aim/dream to be an accountant and police someday? Thirdly,
mathematics is used in all real life mostly in jobs like accounting,
banking, store manager or just working at fast food store etc... All
financial aspects of the businesses deal with mathematical concepts.
Almost people who said to themselves that they are stupid or dumb
with mathematics. When they will hear the word "MATH" they are
thinking about themselves that they did not know how, and they are
being lazy to understand it. There are so many things that can be
change in mathematics when you are already in grade 8 and more, it
will become harder and it will need more patience for solving.
However, the following context will discuss the different
siuations and will show how important math is and how math is used in
real life that can be beneficial for everyday life.
objective

 Name 5 objects or cite 5 situations in real life where chords, arcs,

and central angles of a circle are illustrated. Formulate problems
out of these objects or situations, then solve.

 Make a circle graph showing the different school fees that

students like you have to pay voluntarily. Ask your school cashier
how much you would pay for the following school fees: Parents-
Teachers Association, miscellaneous, school paper, Supreme
Student Government, and other fees. Explain how you applied
your knowledge of central angles and arcs of a circle in preparing
the graph.

 Using the circle graph that you made in number 2, formulate at

least two problems involving arcs, central angle, and sectors of a
circle, then solve.
part 1
 Name 5 objects or cite 5 situations in real life where chords, arcs,
and central angles of a circle are illustrated. Formulate problems
out of these objects or situations, then solve.

Situation 1: Bicycle
Mr. Antonio's bicycle is broken, especially the tire because of
unintentional accident. He want's to know the measurement of an area
of each sector and the length of the spoke (steel that connects) to the
hub(center) of the wheel. So that he could be buy a new things.
The measurement of angle 1 is 18° with the length of 24 cm. What is
the area of each sector and the length of the spoke?
Given:
m angle 1= 18°
l = 24 cm (let l of the spoke be the measurement of radius)
Formula:
Are of a sector: given angle/360 and multipy 2π(r)
Solution:
A = 18/360
= 1/20 x 2π24
A = 1/20 x 48
A = 2.4 cm²

The measurement of the each area of sector is 2.4cm² and according to

the theorem of the circle's radius. In one circle each radius has the same
measurement. So our length of spokes are 24 cm.
Situation 2: Pie

Henry's favorite dessert is Pie and his birthday is nextweek. Jamie(his

wife) thought that it would be great if she will order a boxes of pie for
his husband's birthday celebration. His wife hired a baker, she want's a
3 box of pie with the flavors of Pecan pie, Cherry pie, and Rhubarb pie.
Each box, the slices of pie has an angle of 30°. How many slices does
each box have? How many slices in total?

Given:
3 box of pie Slices of pie has an angle of 30°
Formula:
360/ the given angle
Solution:
360/30° = 12 slices each box
(number of slices) x (number of box)
12 slices x 3
= 36 slices in total

Since the circle's revolution has a 360° and the given is 30°. The
researchers come up to this solution and decided to devide it to know
how many slices on each box, after solving they got 12 slices on each
box. However, the wife ordered 3 box and each box has 12 slices, the
researchers come up to multiply and they got 36 in total of slices.
Situation 3: Ferris Wheel

Harry Wilson, a President living in the City Of New York decided to

build a Ferris Wheel that could be the way happiness of his society and
he hired an engineer. He wants a ferris wheel with a 20 cabins with a
diameter of 50 meters. What should be measure of an central angle to
maintain its balance? What is the measure of rim tube to each other?

Given:
20 cabins
D= 50 meters
Formula:
360/ number of cabins
Solution:
360/20 = 18°
D = 50/2
50/2
= 25 meters

The circle on its own revolution has 360°. Since the Ferris Wheel looks
like a circle. The researchers decided to use the aformentioned
measurement to know the accurate angle which is 18° Then, the
relationship between the diameter and radius is a radius is half of the
measure of the diameter and they got 25meters.
Situation 4: Bow and Arrow

An oldman named Josheph living in the forest, decided to build a bow

and arrow so that he could catched the animal on easy way. The man
cutted a small part of a tree that is shaped like a circle.The point from
the angle to center is 40 meters and the measure of the inscribed angle
1 is 80°, what is the measure of the intercepted arc ?

Given:
Incribed angle is 80°
R= 40 Let point from the angle to center be the measure of radius
Formula:
m angle 1 is 80° = ½ of intercepted arc |
Solution:
m angle 1 is 80 x 2
= 160° is the m of interceoted arc

The theorem of incribed angle tells us that the measure of intercepted

arc is half of insribed angle. The old man got 80° of incribed angle, you
can get the measurement of intercepted if you multiply it by 2. The
researchers got 160°.
Situation 5: Field

The Homeowners of Tierra Nevada Foundation decided to build an

temporart circle field for the kids. The T.N.F CEO named Edcel stated
that the diameter would be 30 meters. What would be the area of the
field?

Given:
D = 30m Formula: πr²
Solution:
A radius is half of the measure of diameter
R= 15
π(15)²
= 225 meter²

With the use of the formula the researchers got the area of the circle,
which is 225m².
part ii
 Make a circle graph showing the different school fees that
students like you have to pay voluntarily. Ask your school cashier
how much you would pay for the following school fees: Parents-
Teachers Association, miscellaneous, school paper, Supreme
Student Government, and other fees. Explain how you applied

Government with 45° is the lowest degrees, in total of 360°. The result
of the graph above shows the accurate degrees of each fees by using the
aformentioned formula.
part iii
 Using the circle graph that you made in number 2, formulate at
least two problems involving arcs, central angle, and sectors of a
circle, then solve.

Problem 1
In the circle A, AE= 25cm, DF= 11.3cm and m
angleADC= 45°and m angleEAB= 112.5°. Use the
figure and the given information to find each
measure. Explain how you arrived at your answer.

I.
AD FC
AB FB
AF DB
II.

m angleEAD
m angleABC m angleADB

Solution
Given: AE= 25cm, DF=11cm, and m angle ADC=45° , m angleEAB=
112.5°
I.
AD=25cm (radius)
AB=25cm (radius)
The endpoint of the Segment AD and AB are the center which is the
radius, while the measurement of the radius is 25cm. All the segments
of radius on the circle are same to its measurement.
AF= ?
11.3²+b²=25²
127.69+b²= 625
b²= 625-127.69
( Sqroot )b²=497.31
AF= 22.3cm
The researcher used Pythagorean theorem to know the another
measurement of the triangle, it is being discussed on the subject.
FC= ?
25cm-22.3cm
FC=2.7cm
The researcher subctracted the measurement of the radius to segment
AF. So that they could get the correct answer.
FB=?
22.4²+ b²=25²
501.18+b²=625
b²=625-501.18
(Sqroot)b²= 123.82
FB= 11.3cm
The researcher used pythagorean formula to know the correct answer.
Just like the another.
DB=?
11.3+11.3
DB= 22.6cm
As you can see on the figure, The segment DF and FB intersects at
1point and it is combined. If they added 11.3+11.3 from the both
measurement, they will got 22.6cm.
II.

m angle EAD= ?
m angle ADC 180° - 45°
m angle EAD= 135°
As you can notice the researcher subtracted the 180° to 45°it is
because the ½ of one revolution is 360.

m angle ABC= ?
= m angle EAB 112.6° - m angle ADC 45°
= 67.5°
As you can see on the figure, the missing angle is in the middle of the 2
given angle. They subtracted the in between angle to get the correct
answer.

m angle ADB=?
m angle ADC 45° + m angle ABC 67.5°
m angle ADB = 112.5°
The 2 angles are complementary, if you added the 2 angles you can get
the sum of the complementary angle. The given above is m angle
EAB= 112.5° and the middle angle is missing, the other side m angle
ADC= 45°. The researcher decided to subtacted it to get the correct
answer.
Problem 2
From the given above. Find each measure and explain how you arrived
at your answer.

I.
Area of a sector m angle 45° ?
Area of a sector m angle 67.5° ?
Area of a sector m angle 112° ?
Area of a sector m angle 135° ?
Area of the circle ?

Solution

Given:
R= 25cm
Area of a sector m angle 45°
Area of a sector m angle 67.5°
Area of a sector m angle 112°
Area of a sector m angle 135°

Formula

Area of a sector = given angle/360 x π(r)²

Area of Circle = π(r)²
The above given formula of Area of a sector
Area of a sector m angle 45° ? = given angle/360 x π(r)². After that,
substitute the given and let the given angle
A = 45/360 x π(25)² divided to 360 and multiply to πr². The
A = ⅛ x 625πcm answer will be check by your subject teacher.
A = 78.125π cm²
The above given formula of Area of Circle =
Area of a sector m angle 67.5° ? π(r)². After that substitute the given radius
A = 67.5/360 x π(25)² and you will get the answer. The answer
A = 3/16 x 625π cm will be check by your subject teacher.

A = 117. 19π cm²

Area of a sector m angle 112° ?

A = 112.5/360 x π(25)²
A = 5/16 x 625π cm
A = 195.31π cm ²

Area of a sector m angle 135° ?

A= 135/360 x π(25)²
A = 3/8 x 625 π cm
A = 234.38 π cm²

Area of the circle

A = π(r)²
R= 25cm
A = π(25)²
A = 625π cm2

The problem solved above is the way of formulating the area of a

sector. Also the way to formulate the area of a circle.
II.
From the given above, find the arc length of the m angle 45° , 67.5°,
112.5°, 135°.

Solution

Given:
m angle 45°
m angle 67.5°
m angle 112°
m angle 135°
R = 25cm
Formula:
The given formula of Arc Length= given
Arc Length= given angle/360 x 2π(r) angle/360 x 2π(r). After that, substitute
the given angle divide by 360 and
multiply by 2π multiply to substituted
m angle 45° given radius. The answer will be check by
A= 45/360 x 2π25 your subject teacher.
A= ⅛ x 50π cm
A= 25/4π cm
Substitute the given
m angle 67.5°
A= 67.5/360 x 2π25
A= 3/16 x 50π cm
A= 75/8π cm
Simplify them
m angle 112°
A= 112/360 x 2π50
A= 14/360 x 50π cm
A= 140/9π cm
Then multiply
m angle 135°
A= 135/360 x 2π25
A= 3/8 x 50π cm
A= 75/4π cm

The problem solved above is about formulating the the arc length by
using the aformentioned formula.
III.
From the given above, determine the measurement of the segment ED
and EB.

Solution

a²+b²=c²
(25)²+(25)²=c²
625+625=c²
1250=c² (sqroot)
c= 35.36 cm

The 2 legs of isoscles triangle are equal and also it is on vertical plane,
it means they are congruent.The measurement of their radius are the
same. The researcher use pythgorean formula to get the other side of
the isosceles triangle, which is 35.36 cm.
conclusion
This study determined the Public school fees that students
should have to pay voluntarily to Langkaan II National Highschool
towards the improvement of a certain year project. Mathematics plays a
big role in our daily lives. It uses everywhere, wether you like it or not.
The researchers concluded that life is not all bout challenges.
It is also all about counting on many things. The mathematics help us
throughout the life is challenges. We use math when we purchase
something, when we make a figure, and even a baby learn to count etc...
Living in the circus of life is not easy, just like math. It might be
difficult to understand but it is required to learn. Math is always been
there, it will never gone and through maths we can balance our time.
Also life is a circle. We may part take our self in to pieces but through
math, we maintain our one whole piece of inner self.
To come to an end, without math, we can do nothing, and
there is one thing that would not be able to function, the world. Life is
sometimes mathematics, we may encounter a problem that has a
solution but sometimes, the problem we encounter is no solution.
