Design of Column Base

The document provides design specifications for a base plate that will support a vertical load of 15 kN. It includes dimensions of the base plate, load and moment values, material properties, and calculations to check that stresses do not exceed allowable limits. The base plate width is determined to be 300 mm to satisfy CASE 1 criteria of eccentricity to length ratios less than 1/6, ensuring no tension. Minimum base plate thickness is calculated as 9.1 mm. An alternative design is also considered using a cantilevered portion and gusset plate.
