After high school, I hit a bit of a slump in terms of my career path. Going to college was
always on mind; however, I had no idea as to what career I should aspire for. Therefore, I took a
break from school for two years. During that time, I thought a lot about what memories made me
happy and of how I could recreate those moments within my future career. That is when I
recalled the memories I shared with my teachers growing up. For instance, my sophomore
English class was very interesting because my teacher was very theatrical. He was very involved
in the lessons with reading stories and plays. His enthusiasm made the class more interesting.
Therefore, as a student, I was excited to show up to class and learn. Now as an aspiring
educator, I would like to do the same thing. With theater experience in my background and my
ceaseless positive attitude, I aspire to make my classroom a fun place to be in. Additionally, It
has been brought to my attention, through taking the introduction to elementary course, that, “the
majority of teachers in the US are over 40, female, and Caucasian." It may look discouraging at
first glance. Those who are a minority or do no fit that description may lose confidence in their
ability to teach and obtain a career in education. However, the statistic can be transformed into a
positive force in children's lives encouraging them to make difference. I, a minority, would like
to encourage my students to not be discouraged from becoming a teacher. I want them to know
and self actualization. A child’s education should be focused and catered to their own wants and
needs.
When it comes to instruction, I enjoy the idea of an aesthetic education, education that
enables students to use artistic forms and imagination to approach all fields of learning, including
the sciences, and to share their perspectives with others. This will help students to learn because
it will create a better atmosphere within the classroom. If our students are partaking in their own
personal interests, a high success rate among students will follow. Because my philosophy will
allow students to learn material from various stand points and perspectives, my curriculum will
be unique and diverse. It aligns with CCSD’s mission that, “all students progress in school and
While I paint the role of an educator to be an ultimately positive, the career does have its’
drawbacks and it is important that teachers have the qualities to work through these challenges.
Behavior problems are bound to happen in the classroom and the way teachers choose to handle
them can have a great impact on students. In order to succeed in this career, teachers need to be
patient. This means being patient in all aspects including with students, personal educational, and
achieving goals. My main goal as educator is to encourage uniqueness and the acceptance of non
conformity within the classroom. However, I have a long way to go before I can practice my
own methods in my own classroom. Before I have my own classroom, I plan to graduate from
UNLV with a bachelors in elementary education. Afterwards, I would like to volunteer with
various youth programs, perhaps with recreation centers, to gain more experience. Ultimately, I
will achieve all my goals all thanks to one of my best attributes, patience.
