Uptown Funkcakes is a food service business providing pancakes and related


products which are unique, substantial and nourishing products with great flavors. The
company will be a small entrepreneurial food service located in SM, Davao City. Pancakes
will be offered with a variety of flavors, sizes, styles, and toppings.

Product quality is critical in the food industry. For that reason, Uptown Funkcakes
will ensure product quality through the use of fresh ingredients, sale of only fresh, hot and
tasty pancakes. Innovations are also a goal of the company. One way which this will be
accomplished is through creating new flavors of pancakes, a variety of sizes, and different
attractive designs. Product quality and innovations will be a major focus of the business.

Based on the Marketing research that was conducted by the company, it shows the
high potential marketability and acceptability of the business in the proposed location.
Uptown Funcakes core competencies will address these concerns -location, price, and
reliability in terms of quality and quantity. Using the marketing strategies and the low prices
of our products for our target market can attract them to continuously support our business
serving them a variety of unique pancake mixtures and other product offered. The identified
primary target market of Uptown Funkcakes is everyone ranging from kids up to adult and
even senior citizens.

Uptown Funkcakes will be managed by five business individuals, namely: Ms. Risha
Mhie Matila, Ms. Aliza Mae Cano, Ms. Michea Sumaylo, Ms. Rovi Darunday, and Ms.
Nichole Salazar. The owners will take all responsibility in managing the operations of the
business. They will hire highly skilled kitchen staffs and service crews, to assist them in the
business. A total of two personnel will be employed to ensure a smooth flow of business
operations. Uptown Funkcakes start-up requirements amounted to ₱500,000.00. The
₱500,000.00 will come from the owner’s fund.

It is projected that the average annual return of investment is at 10%. The projected
payback period of 0.59 years is expected of the business which will be supported with
increasing gross profit and net profit margin during its first three years of operations. The
business profit margin is maintained at 34% for three years. Further, the business projected
that return on sales is at 10%.

Uptown FunkCakes is a start-up bakery establishment in Davao City. The business


aims to be unique compared to other pancake houses. Aside from being unique, it has an
affordable price which will benefit customers with a tight food budget. Uptown FunkCakes
will offer sweet and great tasting pancake for everyone to enjoy. It is a business dedicated to
providing high-quality desserts in a comfortable atmosphere for clients who seek a fun
"gourmet" experience outside restaurants. It is an innovative business that will provide
delicious and affordable pancakes with a variety of toppings or fillings.

Uptown FunkCakes will be a partnership business for its capital will be partakes by
owners. This structure was chosen because of its operational simplicity. Any profit or loss
shall be shared among the owners. The proponents of the business created Uptown
FunkCakes to provide quick and quality services to customers, with maximum attention to
them, and offer the best quality products.

The company logo consists of pancake stack with a hot/heated icon on top implies
that Uptown FunckCakes provide freshly prepared pancakes at all times during business

The circle surrounding the logo represents the customers which strongly suggest that
the business is nothing without them.

The combination of orange and brown colour was chosen as a motif of the logo for it
provides a sense of comfort, simplicity and stimulates productivity that can draw customers
to buy the product.

IV. Product Description

The products to be offered are pancakes with a customer’s choice of the toppings and
fillings. The menu will be represented with variety of options. Products will always be fresh,
of highest quality and taste.
Our products pancakes, as well as beverages, will be produced only from the best
ingredients, and by high-professional cooks using the modern methods of preparation and
equipment. Uptown FunkCakes sells gourmet desserts coupled with exceptional customer
service in a comforting atmosphere. Customers can dine-in and watch the chef create their
dessert.
Uptown Funkcakes is a style pancake that is a flat cake, often thin, and round,
prepared from a starch-based batter and cooked on a hot surface such as a griddle or frying
pan. While it is baked on a pan, the pancake is spread with butter or margarine and sugar. It is
rolled up or folded and eaten hot with a variety of toppings on top and sweet or
savoury filling inside. The variety of topping may include chocolate sprinkles, cheese,
marshmallow, jam, fruits, syrup, chocolate chips, or other topping that can be served.
There are many new varieties of pancakes complete with a variety of toppings and
taste. In baking the pancakes, we use premium ingredients and various fillings include
imported ingredients like blueberry, Japanese green tea powder (matcha), cream cheese,
cranberries, chocolate candies and imported chocolate crunchy spread.

Aside from having a various fillings, Uptown FunkCakes also serves pancakes in
four different sizes. First, the Pizza FunkCakes that has a round shape dimension of 30 cm
in diameter and about 3 cm in thickness. Next, the Classic Size FunkCakes that has a
diameter of 20 cm. Third, the Mini FunkCakes that can be suitable for small children with
diameter of 8 to 10 cm. Lastly,the most enticing and best-selling FunkCakes which is the
DIY FunkCakes or Design It Yourself pancakes wherein the customers can freely choose
their desired pancakes. The freedom of choices includes shaping and designing the pancakes
with their own variety of toppings and fillings. We also offer refreshments like fruit juice,
frozen juice blends, iced tea, and blue lemonade to combine it with our delicious and budget
friendly pancakes.

V. Situation Analysis

For the past 10 years, SM City Davao has grown tremendously. The growing
community of children, teenagers, adults and among others are a perfect support base for the
Uptown FunkCakes.

Currently, SM City Davao is served by multiple fast-food chains and restaurants.


None of these carry out a menu items found at Uptown FunkCakes. In addition, our store is
located on the first floor near the main entrance of the mall. The foot traffic in this area is
very heavy as it will be easier for those who crave pancakes to locate our store.

Uptown FunkCakes holds sufficient knowledge about the market and distinguishes a
vast deal about the common characteristics of the prized and loyal customers. Uptown
FunkCakes will leverage this knowledge to better comprehend who will be served by their
specific needs, and how the Uptown FunkCakes can better communicate with them.

working professionals who gravitate better tasting of pancakes will be included in our target
market. Our product has a very reasonable price that will benefit those individuals who have
a tight budget. The place is high customer traffic area because it is surrounded by
establishments and schools/universities. The place is suitable for its visibility and
accessibility for potential customers, shoppers, workers, and students. Our business location
is accessible to the market we can easily catch the attention of our target market. We expect
to have a few customers, due to the new business establishment. But later on, by providing
the customers with high-quality products and by conducting an advertising campaign, we
expect to attract more new customers.
Our target market will have very broad appeal. It is our goal to be the hip destination
for pancake cravings.

And also will give its customer a variety of budget-friendly pancakes with its aim to promote
a healthy lifestyle to our customers. We can guarantee that our products are made from fresh
ingredients; Uptown FunkCakes is also unique because we sell a different selection of
pancake which is Mini Pancakes, Tower Classical Pancakes, Pizza Pancakes and also our
specialty product DIY (Design It Yourself) pancake. We also offer fruit juice, frozen juice
blends, iced tea, and blue lemonade.

nutritious food to our consumers. We prefer to serve a healthy mixture of pancake that fits

pancakes, our target markets are the working professionals and students so we put up a price
that is affordable and still a delicious product.

1. The first marketing strategy will be personal selling. It is also known as face-to-face

Production Schedule
Uptown Funkcakes will open 9:00 am every day. Because of the operating hours of
the location of the business which is SM City Davao. Thus, the staffs must be in the
workplace at 8:30 am for food preparation. Daytime schedules begin around 9:00 a.m. and go
through 6:00 p.m., including a one-hour noon break. An evening shift runs from 01:00 p.m.

The sales forecast is based on the estimated average number of pancakes sold to a
customer after careful analysis of the market and the competitor. It is assumed on average,
the business can sell 60 pancakes per day and it is grossed up to annual sales in pancakes
multiplied by price to come up with annual sales revenue.

Inventory Control
Uptown Funkcakes will ensure that a correct balance between sufficiency of
inventory and related carrying costs. Inventory reports will be generated regularly from the
cash register whenever repurchases are deemed necessary. Storing inventory according to
perish ability is also prescribed to maintain the freshness and quality of each ingredients.

Suppliers
In order to support Davao businesses, it is important that we purchase ingredients
grown in Davao Region whenever possible. We solely use Wheat Davao/Philippines for our
flour as well as Davao dairies for our dairy products. Other ingredients are purchased and
delivered from a local food distributor.
We use top quality local suppliers and produce a premium product, with everything
we make being made in-house, cooked to order.

Quality Control
Uptown Funkcakes will create a system that provides an endless pursuit of quality
products and excellent service to the customers. The staff will follow a standard of food
preparation to ensure the consistency of the ingredients from one serving to another. The
business will make sure that the ingredients of pancake products to be used are natural and
free from preservatives. The business will conduct a manual inventory controls on a weekly
basis to verify items on hands especially those that will spoil fast like eggs.
The business will maintain a 100% compliance policy for sanitation and food
handling throughout the manufacturing area to ensure the safety and wellness of the
customers. All cooking utensils and equipment are surely washed and cleared with proper
clearing materials every after use.
For packaging, we will make sure to cover the product properly to protect them
against damage or contamination by micro-organisms, air, moisture and toxins.
