NMC CBT TIPS AND HACKS
Pls see below the various cbt tips and pointers from various nurses who have passed the cbt.
, the test is all about assessing the nurse's reaction. Most of the time all the choices are correct the first read. You
have to choose the best answer, which could be:
- the most complete choice
- the very first nursing action
- the least invasive intervention
Lastly, when you actually sit the exam, take a deep breath. Relax. TAKE YOUR SWEET TIME. There are only 120
questions. The test is 4 hours - that's 240 minutes! I finished my test in 20 minutes. So I took my time and reviewed
ALL the 120 items TWICE! It's not like the NCLEX. You can go back to the questions and change your answers. You
can even "flag" questions that you may find difficult, so that you can review them later.
. Here are the topics that came out:
- the code
- standards of practice
- standards of medication administration
- controlled drugs
- yellow card system
- information act
- observations & scoring tools
- wound management
- infection control & waste disposal
- geriatric nursing (LOTS of questions in my exam were about the elderly)
- basic physiology
- super mega basic drug calculations... the questions were like bonus points because they were so straight forward
- nursing homes
- dementia, alzheimers, delirium
- learning disabilities
- manual handling & proper use of walking aids
- end of life care
Sources I relied on were the NICE Guidelines, NHS Choices, the Royal Marsden Manual, and of course the NMC
Publications.
Tell them to internalize the code. The questions pretty much revolved around it. The code can serve as their
beacon to answer other questions.
-holistic approach in nursing care
-Delagation (must only be done by a COMPETENT individual once you Delegate)
-Consents (one specific question about elective surgery came out)
-Confidentiality (must only be breached if public interest and safety is of primary concern)
-Privacy (must be present at all times)
-Advocacy
Procedures that came out.

-Wound Dressing (proliferation stage of wound, best type of dressing)
-NGT feeding (before routine feeding check placement by xray)
-Paracentesis (position during the procedure)
-Lumbar Tap (watch out for neurological warning signs that signifies brain stem herniation)
-Log-rolling
-CTT removal
Equipment:
Zimmerman frame?
Crutches
Infection Control:
-Familiarize proper disposal (what bags should be used for biohazard, radioactive wastes, etc.)
-C. Deficile (i guess 5 questions came out from this one.)
-Standard Precaution
-sign of infection
Medication Administration
-One particular scenario about a patient who wants to take the medications on his own.
Psychiatric Nursing
-depressed patient suddenly becomes energetic (Has finalized a suicide plan)
Shock:
-Early signs of shock.
TELL THE TO READ ABOUT CARE FOR THE ELDERLY AND HOSPICE CARE, drug calculations are basic but you have to
solve it manually, wala pong calculator sa exam interface ng CBT unlike HAAD na meron, Others are basic na po,
pero I would advice not to be complacent. Unlike other exams na na take ko po, which focuses mainly on the
theoretical foundations of a nurse in diseases, and nursing management. PATIENT-FOCUSED po ang CBT, more on
the ethical aspect of nursing in relation to the current practices and standards in the UK. If i’ll remember
something send ko po sa inyo ulit. IF THEY HAVE THE LUXURY OF TIME PLEASE TELL THEM TO READ THE ROYAL
MARSDEN BOOK PO YUNG STUDENT EDITION. MAY MGA MOCK TEST RIN PO ANG ROYAL MARSDEN SA SITE NILA.

Most questions were situational and largely based on most of the NMC guidelines and UK standards. The blueprint
was useful. Although the links on the blueprint were quite a handful to read, i think it's best to skim/ scan on some
files that are way too long. And focus on the topics which were noted to be critical ones as stated on the blueprint.

2nd cbt test
What to mainly study:
* Medication Management, Controlled Drugs
* Consent
* Safeguarding of patients (specially elderly)
* Dementia, Alzheimer's
* Nursing interventions for a stroke patient
* What to monitor prior to giving Digoxin? - Heart Rate
* What to watch out for upon giving Allopurinol?
* Where to put linens from a patient with infectious disease?
* Yellow Card Scheme
* Patient's Right to Confidentiality. Should only override if there's a greater harm for the public.
* What would you do if the aid didn't wash hand before touching patient?
* What should you do before doing any procedure? - Perform SIX STEP handwashing (make sure you answer this
one as there are other choices that only says handwashing)
* Reporting of child and elderly abuse
* Safeguarding patients from incompetent co-workers
* As for drug computations, tell the others not to study the complicated stuff such as Dopa-Dobu. The questions
for drug computations are VERY basic such as:
- Order is 7.5mg tablet. Stock is 2.5mg tablet. How many tablets will you give?
- Order is IV of 750ml to run for 8 hours. How many ml per hour?
Other tips:
* Don't bother studying specific illness pathophysiology. It will not appear in the test. Just study the links on the
blueprints. Don't memorize, just read them.
* Everything they need to know is on the blueprint. Read the ones marked as letter E as it is essential.
* Critical questions on the exam is NOT marked. There are more or less 40 critical questions which you SHOULD get
correctly.
* The exam itself is VERY short but the time allotted for it is 4 hours. Don't rush. Make use of the whole 4 hours to
review everything more than twice.
