The Transformer Turns Ratio test (TTR) measures the ratio of the
voltage between transformer windings to insure that it conforms to its
nameplate. SAES-P-121
B19
Measure and record the turns ratio on each tap. Deviation of not more Sec. 3.2
than +/- 0.5% are allowed.
NETA, ATS- 2009
The ratio of winding voltages of any two windings installed on the same
segment of magnetic core is nearly identical to the ratio of the number of
turns of the windings. This relationship is expressed mathematically as:
V1/V2=N1/N2 SAES-P-121
B20
V1 = open-circuit voltage of the high voltage winding Sec. 3.2
V2 = open circuit voltage of the low voltage winding
N1 = number of turns in the high-voltage winding
N2 = number of turns in the low-voltage winding
Power Rating
a) Transformer data appears on an identification nameplate fastened
SAES-P-121
B21 directly onto the transformer.
Sec. 3.2
b) Transformers are primarily rated in kilovolt amperes (kVA).
NETA, ATS- Sec.7.2.2.1.1
The standardized rules of the industry state that the high-voltage leads
brought outside the case are to be marked H1, H2, etc. and the low-
SAES-P-121
B24 voltage leads X1, X2, etc.

Dielectric test levels shall be in accordance with the distribution levels. SAES-P-121
B37
NETA, ATS- Sec.7.2.2.2.10.1 Sec. 3.2
The test is made by first disconnecting the core ground strap, which is
normally connected to a pad on the underside of the cover near the
SAES-P-121
B39 manhole or handhole. The megohmmeter is then connected between
Sec. 3.2
the core ground strap and the tank ground.
