Major exploration and development projects are suspended, because are seen to be
economically unviable, left the companies inventory idle while costing significant loss in potential
revenue. By this problem we need an Effective, Efficient, Economic and Safe Drilling Operation
to comply those demand. One of the solution is we have to plan the exploration operation to reach
an advance oil and gas technology on deepwater to boost production and face future energy needs.
To achieve successful drilling in offshore, we should apply several not only new innovations and
technologies, but also economical logically for investments. Beside that to gain a better future
environmental impact, we should make a solution to design oil and gas industry as ecofriendly as
possible. One of the example exploration is Yadana Gas Field.
Yadana Gas Field was located in Andaman (sea) Basin, extends 1200 km from Burma to
Sumatra and 650 km from the Malay Peninsula to the Andaman and Nicobar islands. The eastern
portion of the basin is the Malay continental margin. Subsequent folding and faulting modified the
shelf, forming at least two major terraces, the Sumatra Shelf-basin and a 650 km long continental
slope. Andaman-Nicobar Ridge, western boundary of the basin, consists of an Upper Cretaceous
serpentinite-ophiolite-radiolarite core overlain by Paleocene to Miocene graywackes and shales at
least 3000 m thick.
The gas field lies around 1,300 metres (4,300 ft) beneath the seabed in the water depth
around 40 metres (130 ft). The Yadana gas field contains more than 150 billion cubic meters of
natural gas and has an expected field life of over 30 years.
By looking at Yadana Field, this sea characteristic is unpredictable and extreme could come
any time. An extreme sea condition can disturb a rig unit. According to all the problem that Yadana
Field have. We need a Semisubmersible drilling unit that could overcome from all those problem.
