4th Online Activity - Awareness

1. What are the different problems have you identified upon reading the conditions of the
children in Sitio Mabolon?
- The apparent problems in sitio mabolon is that first of all their access to
government welfare services are limited due to their location being fairly isolated
and within the mountains. It is also clear that the malnutrition of the children are
caused by lack of access to medicare and food.

2. What are the conditions of the community and its people as reflected in the situations of
Nene and Tito?
- The first case in relation to nene was due to the lack of medical professionals
present in their community which lead to the resortment of nene’s parents into
spiritual superstition healing called the albularyo. The second case being that tito
who was HIV positive and malnutritioned was living in an environment where
basic necessities such as proper sanitation and healthy food were not available
which led to tito’s health to deteriorate.

3. If you are a health worker in the center, what steps can you propose in response to the
concerns you have enumerated?
- I would propose a local clinic that would have all the basic medical prescriptions
and tools to ensure that everyone in the community is healthy and so that they
would resort less to traditional superstition. I would also suggest a restructuring of
the agricultural landmass of the area in order to benefit and reap the rewards that
come with it. Lastly a fund for their monthly community supply of foods and
other basic necessities.

4. What project regarding awareness can you propose if Sitio Mabolon is your assigned
community?
- I would conduct health outreach programs that would include basic seminary talks
to the local community on how they can improve their state of health in terms of
malnutrition and other diseases.
