I- Objectives: CE 7
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
1. Define speed and velocity.
2. Distinguish Constant speed and instantaneous speed.
II- Preliminaries:
1. Prayer
2. Chair arrangement
3. Checking of attendance
III- Motivation:
The teacher will ask the students the following questions. Each questions worth 1
chip that costs 5 points. This will be given to the student who can answer the
questions.
IV- Analysis
1. The Teacher will introduce the topic
2. The Teacher will discuss about speed and velocity
After determining how far the object moves, the next question will bee “How fast did the
object move?”. This information can be provided by the object’s speed or velocity.

The unit of speed can be miles per hour (mi/h), kilometers per hour (km/h) or meters per
seconds (m/s)
Ex. A cyclist travels 3 km in ½ hour, his speed is?

Speed = 6 km/h
But, is this 6km/h is the actual speed of a cyclist? No. This is just an average speed. It is
considered average speed because it represents the speed of the cyclist throughout his
travel. During his travel, there were instants that his speed would vary. His speed at an
instant is called instantaneous speed. When an object’s instantaneous speed values are
always the same, then it means that the object is moving with constant speed.
In describing motion of an object, we do not just describe how fast the object moves.
We also consider the direction to where it is going. Speed with direction is referred to as
velocity.

1. The lesser the time of travel, the greater the speed of travel
2. The greater the distance travelled, the greater the speed of travel.
3. The fastest participant is the one with highest computed value of distance over
time.
